Process Servers Fill an Important Role in Legal Proceedings, Don’t Be Fooled by Posers

Scam Artist Posing as Process ServerScams take many forms, but all have the same goal: taking money from the unsuspecting. Their tactics sometimes involve masquerading as lawful agents, bullying people into handing over money for fear of legal repercussions. Process servers, unfortunately, are now a getting a bad rap thanks to scammers. Posing as a process server is almost the perfect cover for a scam artist. After all, process servers call individuals and go their home with legal documents. Most people are unfamiliar with the legal process and don’t know exactly what they’re supposed to do when they’re served with papers. This presents a golden opportunity for scammers to take advantage of you.

If you are contacted by somebody claiming to be a process server, here are three huge flags indicating you are about to be taken in a scam.

1) The Server Demands You Pay Him

A process server is always paid by the party hiring him to deliver the documents. Whether it’s a divorce, child support or debt collection case, the party being served will never pay the server directly.

If a process server ever asks you to give them money, it’s a scam.

Sometimes, fake process servers may even claim they can get the case dismissed if you pay them or that there will be major repercussions if you do not. This is patently false. All a process server is paid to do is deliver legal documents.

A process server cannot do anything to make a court case “go away.” Anybody posing as a process server who asks you for money is clearly not a server and is trying to scam you. If you find yourself in a situation where a fake server is asking for money, call the Police.

2) The Server Calls Constantly and Intimidates You

Real process servers will call people they are trying to serve. If a server can get in touch with you, they will try to arrange a time to deliver the documents. A server may make a few attempts to call you and might leave a message on your answering machine. In Wisconsin, there are no statutes stating when a server can or cannot call you, but legitimate process servers will not call constantly or attempt to intimidate you.

If a server calls you at all hours of the day from a non-local number trying to scare you, it’s a scammer.

A server may explain that there could be bad consequences to not receiving the papers. This is merely a statement of fact and not an attempt to frighten you. Fake servers will use high-pressure scare tactics to bully you into giving out personal information they may use for nefarious purposes.

Process servers handle jobs from all over the country and may be serving documents from another state. At the same time, the person actually serving the papers lives within driving distance of your home. If you start getting phone calls from process servers on strange, non-local or blocked numbers, it’s probably a scam.

3) The Server Cannot Give You Any Information about the Case

This one may be a tricky flag to understand, but it is very important. Process servers normally deliver documents related to actual court cases. Court cases have captions listing the parties involved (i.e. you and another person or business), a State and County where the case is filed and usually a case number. Process servers can have dozens of papers at any time and may not know the specifics of your papers off hand, but we can always check our stack and let you know.

If a process server tells you they have sealed court documents or cannot tell you any of the case information, it’s probably a scam.

A real process server will never deliver sealed documents they know nothing about. We are required to inform you of the nature of the documents and will know at least what kind of papers we’re serving and the case they belong to. We can easily tell you the State and County where the case is filed, the case number if it has one and who are the named parties. If you’re still unsure whether you’re dealing with a real server or a scam artist, you can always call the clerk of court in the county where the case is filed and check to see if the case has actually exists. Many states have special websites where you can enter the case information and see if a case has been filed.

Bonus: They Can’t Pronounce the Name of Your City

Like we said above, a real process server delivering papers to you is a local. If the person posing a server can’t pronounce the names of local cities with odd names, like Oconomowoc, Waukesha or Kaukauna, they’re probably not a process server.

If You’re Getting Scammed, Notify the Authorities

If you ever find yourself in a situation where one of these flags is raised, notify the local authorities. These scammers can take thousands from unsuspecting individuals and will continue to steal from others until they are brought to justice. You can help your neighbors and even legitimate process servers by reporting process serving scams as soon as you are aware of them.

Hey UBS! You all changed your number without letting us know. How rude of you guys. Had we have known, we all would have pitched in to get you a new number gift. Well all is not lost. Not a lot as happened since you Since You Quit your old numbers of 855-356-3485 then  to 855-378-9678  then to 855-202-3648 and now here. Well Welcome to your new Neighborhood Thread!  Well we want everyone on this thread to know how creative and special you are with your scam operation.

Now everybody on here needs to pay attention. UBS, in their own eyes does not have to follow the guidelines and laws dictated by the federal debt collections Act
Now under the law, you as a possible or so-called debtor have rights protected by the federal debt collections Act.

Request a validation letter by u.s. mail and their address. Now don't hold your breath, they will not give it to you. They like to play hard to get.
In fact they are adamant that they have a case number and are going to file a lawsuit in your county or County close to you. Or have you arrested.
This is nothing but a hoax and a scam to play off of your fears so don't fall for it. Also do not verify or confirm any of your personal information with them.

They use numerous different phone numbers for a short amount of time to Blitz as many calls as they can and hopefully capture Revenue from unsuspecting people. Once they have exhausted their efforts they will switch to a new telephone number again. Do some research and Google UBS or just type in UBS in the 800 call note window and you will see all of the different numbers they have been using.

By the way, they really get frustrated when you call them back and ask them for their information.

Your best defense is arm yourself by educating yourself with your rights and their business history that is noted in all the different threads.

Everyone of you on here should be ashamed of yourselves.  These people have worked so hard on creating a business plan that relies on your lack of knowledge of the law and your fear so they can extort Money from us by illegal threats. So as it looks now,  it seems as if you might have embarrassed them and  hurt the feelings because I am not seeing anymore posts about them calling. They will most likely have to cancel their brand new rented phone number and start all over.
Now if you get another call from them, I whole heartedly expect you guys to act a little afraid so that they don't get discouraged. And if anyone from UBS is following this thread, Just know that we are all very sorry and we will all try to pretend that we are scared and will also try to refrain from calling you nasty names.  And if your still reading this, then you need to pick yourself up! Walk back in that call center with your chin up high and keep trying!

I got a call saying they would show up to serve me papers, When I call back I only get a voice mail box

They said they was trying to collect a debt from 2010 from a town that I hadn't lived in for over 2 year's, they said they were trying to collect from a loan in the amount of $1,100

Called saying that they had a case of fraud against me from 2011.  Collection of a payday loan. I was not around at that time. This Is A SCAM!!!!

States "you have been officially notified" very vague and ambiguous. Does not give any other information. Doesn't state where calling from or business name, it is a recorded message which is disconcerting. When called back they do not give information( business name, location etc. )

Then when I called back it just ring it doesn't Saint any company or anything to that effect they said that they would either show but my home or my place of business because there was a complaint put against me and my eyes if there was a complete God forbid or a debt that I would oh how would they know how to contact me that's report either understand gotta be so careful with people like this because my daughter almost put out 2 grand for something that wasn't even true

Why are you calling these numbers back? If you've received nothing in the mail that might be linked to this, write it off as a trick, like it is. You're not going to be forewarned about being served papers, arrests, warrants, summons, subpoenas, etc.,. That's what you pay for of you're answering unknown calls. No kind of answer, no way these crooks can do anything but get disgusted and stop calling.

Calls and say that they have a complaint about me they will bring the papers  to my house or where I work it's  been goin on for while I listen to what  they said I need it stoped

They called me today saying the same thing, even called my father. Said I owed 1200 for a payday loan from a place i've never even been to. A Mr.Goldstein hung up in my face when I asked him to mail me a letter for proof, I guess he got frustrated and hung up. when I called back I asked to speak to a supervisor and then I was hung up on again. Then a lady named Rebecca whethers played supervisor said she was the district something and apologized on behalf of mr.Goldstein. LOL im glad I googled the number

This same number is bugging saying I have charges against and will show up to my place of business...

REAL servers do not call first.  The first posters have great information for you.

They call a lot. Also text. They are going to serve papers on me at work. Always last chance to fix call immediately

They call a lot and leave a message they are going to serve papers at my work or home. They also have left text messages. They also give a case number, then a phone  844 694 2579

They don't tell me who they are. They call a lot. They count the number of calls. They will say this is our 5 th attempt to reach you.

They are calling me saying I owe them money an if I pay 649 dollars then I won't have to go to court an pay 1200 , can't tell me the name of the payday loan all they say is that they are VIP loans

Basically started off the robo call with saying that I needed to confirm my name and address...um, no.  If you have documents for me then its your job to find me.  Besides, I dont own any money.
