- JL| 1 replyGot a call from a Mr. Stewart calling my job to speak to my supervisor about a legal matter I was about to be arrested for. I told him it was me (I answer the phones) shocked, he said, "well that's unfortunate". He claimed I have two counts of fraud pending against me for a debt I owe. I took down a number yo reach him 844-704-5173 xt. 425. When I called back the answering machine sounded like a robot and mentioned "if you have been served court papers..." I then spoke to Mr. Stewart the process server again. After informing him it is against the law for him to call my job he transferred me to a Mr. Caine at xt. 436. Mr. Caine reiterated what Mr. Stewart did before and told me he would talk to the attorney there to see if he can place my account on hold. He said they were about to send my file to my county to have my sheriff's office come pick me up. After several holds to speak to his atty, he told me he could hold my acct if I gave him my Visa or MC # and made a payment. I called the original debtor that I owe money to and they told me LSU is not a company they sold my acct to and they have had several ppl call with this same scam. I then reported them to the CT and FL Financial Dept of Regulation. LSU is a scam. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY OF YOUR INFO OR MONEY!

- Elspeth replies to JLNot to mention that failure to pay back a loan is NOT fraud or a crime - debt is civil, not criminal, so you wouldn't be arrested either. Good for you for investigating and not just taking this scammer's words for it! Please also do report them to the FTC - www.ftc.gov the FBI - www.fbi.gov and your state's Attorney General - you can find your state's AG at www.naag.org.
- EileenThey're calling about a bill I paid 3 1/2 yes ago.
- greeneyes11I received a phone regarding the same information. That I would be served papers and I have two options to pay amount in full or jail time/court cost. It's a shame that technology comes down to people trying to ruin the lives of others by any means necessary. I hope our testimony helps others.

- JimMI got a message from this number that, almost verbatim, followed the script listed in an earlier post. The guy said "One of your employees …" In the end, we figured out it was all a scam and it was just some line of BS intended to scare a person into paying money. I provided the name and call back number to the police, who said they would take care of it.
- Call type: Debt collector
- JaMarieI also got a message from this number. It was a man that transfered me to a lady and she followed the same script also.

- computerscam| 1 replyThis number 1-844-704-5173 popped up as I was uninstalling erroneous programs on a computer. Pop up stated "Windows Alert! Suspicious activity detected. Major security issue. To fix call Support for windows 1-844-704-5173"
- stisdale replies to computerscamMy mom got the same message. She called it back and it was some company trying to sell her computer security software for like $400.
- Carla PotterReceived a message on my home phone for my brother (K. Darby). Said he would be arrested for fraud and to return the call. Their phone number 844-704-8326. I called and notified person my brother moved out of the state 2 years ago. I refused to give them his current address or phone number and I offered to relay the message to my brother. They gave me an file #A6545. I informed him my brother has been on workers comp for the past 6 years and is unable to work. His case will be heard in court this June. Looking at other on-line comments about this number I know they are a debt collector and they are attempting to use scare tactics on my brother.

- BigA replies to CPotterYou gave them too much information. You should have just said it isn't me and don't call anymore and hung up.
They call family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money.
This is a common ploy by criminals masquerading as debt collectors who are attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt. One of the tricks they use is to call your work place, friends, or relatives repeatedly in an attempt to shame you into paying. They also use the “process server” ruse who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number
