Received a voice mail from this number. The men told me to not ignore this message or something will happen. Not too sure if i have to believe it...

It is spam they are fraud they pose as the gorverment of canada and told you owe them taxes and if you hangup they will pursuit you.

They left a message claiming to be a CRA officer.  Officer Reiner or Reimer and said they would take legal action if I didn't call back immediately.  Sounded like some kind of african accent or maybe some sort of indian.  I phoned the number repeatedly until a 'CRA Agent' James Martin answered the phone.  He even gave me some kind of non-sensical agent number.  I asked them repeatedly what they wanted and then told them I was calling the fraud center.  They hung up.  I called back a few more times until I got someone to pick up.  They answered "Crime Investigations Unit'.  I said crime investigations of what?  and got the reply, "of your mother's p**sy, mother f**ker".  He must have been having a bad morning.

Rec'd message from 844-804-2258, told me not to ignore message because I would be in big trouble. I called back just to see how far they would go, they answered "Crime Investigations". When I asked what crime, the man said "Suck it baby, take it deep in the throat". How unprofessional. How obviously scumbag scam artists with no self-restraint. Idiots.

I, too, just received a call from this number. I had to listen to it 3 times as it was barely audible, with lots of scratchy background noise.
The calls started about 2 weeks ago, at a rate of one, every couple of days. I also received 2 badly worded emails at 1am, supposedly from the CRA, which I sent straight to junk and deleted.
I mainly receive the calls on my landline and let them ring to message - which, they never leave any.
Yesterday, I started receiving them on my cell phone. This morning was the first time a message was left. The guy sounded like he had an American accent. He said his name was Brent Reimer (or, Reiner?) from the CRA.
Half way through the message, he starts getting very loud and threatening then talks about legal action if I don't call back @1-844-804-2258. Then, he finishes off with "Goodbye and Take care", which, I thought was kind of weird given the nature of this call and his previous tone. I blocked this number on my iPhone.

they called sounded really choppy hard to understand, said I was in big trouble and that I have to pay, not sure what for. Clearly not CRA as they claimed I'm sure they would Mail anything out and wouldn't be so rude.

Hi all, I was called by this number, like most of you described, they left a message and claimed to be from the CRA and made threats that the legal my legal situation would be bad if I didn't call. What I would like to know is: Where did these scamers find my number? I've only had it for two weeks. I'm thinking of changing numbers since I don't have mine a long time and not much people have it. If you ever posted your phone number on a social site, or used it when ordering online, or typed it in an insecure computer, or gave it to a friend whose computer was attacked, or filled out an entry form at a fair or a supermarket, or used it on a contest entry form, or put it on a postcard for a magazine or purchase, or were among those whose information was hacked from some organization, or obtained a "new" phone number ... your number is probably known to the scammers.

Allow me to present another possibility in a very simple fashion ... not to insult your intelligence, but to attempt to get the idea across to even those who have difficulty understanding more complicated answers.  Click on the "Info" line, below, to learn about that possibility.


There, now you know all about how spammers can dial YOUR phone number, even if it is unlisted, and even if only relatives know it, and even if it is on or off the DNC list.

I hope that helps prove the DNC list DOES work!  It helps prevent calls from registered / legitimate telemarketers, but it is not able to stop calls from telespammers.  It is also NOT designed to stop political callers (who usually get the numbers from voter registration lists), calls from charities, or some other companies, such as debt collectors; or some companies with which you have done business in the last 18 months.

Got a voicemail from these jabronies at my office number. Muffled and distorted message, with an south-Asian sounding accent that told me not to try and ignore this call or the legal situation would blah blah. Didn't call back but I suppose we will see where it goes from here.

Hi thanks for your answer. I just moved to Canada from Germany and this is new to me. My daughter was also harassed several times last week and did NOTHING of the above (giving the number somewhere). So I am really astonished at the easiness of the scammers to receive our numbers.

As you learned, there are many ways for the bad guys to get your daughter's phone number.  Her "new" number may have been recycled from somebody else's old number, or her number could have been generated by a "war dialer".  After all, numbers are just numbers.

The best defense is a call blocking device, application or service.

Got a call where they started speaking before my phone's voicemail kicked in.  Was extremely threatening of legal action if I or my agent didn't call them back.  Did not describe what the issue was about and spoke very fast.  Even after hearing it twice, I could not get the number down, but had to look at caller ID for it.  Extremely unprofessional sounding.  Did not identify himself as Officer (something), and went into needing to call them back the second I got the message.  From the comments above, add my voice that this is a scam.

I got a call from this number just now, since I don't recognize the number I let it go straight to the voice message.  Same scratchy message about CRA calling and I'm in trouble if I or my agent don't contact them.
Called back the line using google hangout and didn't get to a real person.  So I left them a message that I was told it's a scam number and stop calling me again.

Just got a voicemail from this number. Couldn't understand the guy, but basically if I or my internal agent (who!?) won't call back something's gonna happen, because I did something illegal (yeah, sure). Message ended with woman's voice saying "good bye", which was absolutely creepy.

Received this number as a CRA call. Phoned back to ask why they called they told me to shut up and hung up

CRA with threatening voicemail

I received this same threatening phone call just now. Immediately thought it as spam since they did not state a name at all - his or mine. Just threatening legal action if I did not call back immediately.  No information of any kind except I better not ignore the message.

Got the same very threatening message from a guy with an East Indian accent who said he was from the CRA.  It was pre-recorded and very hard to understand, as the quality of the call was really bad.  The first thing I did was Google the phone number and this page came up.

I receive 2 call today .He left a message saying not to disregard the call or he will send some lawyer .Bring it on idiots .
