You keep replying that to everyone's post but I've received calls from these people and I don't have outstanding student debt whatsoever. In fact I don't have any debt - but this number is calling my relatives and friends claiming I have outstanding debt to pay or else I'm "going to jail".

This number is not a scam. This company is Central Research and help people get there student loans out of debt. Legally they can not tell you they are a collection agency and they do verify with birthday and social to make sure they do not give information about your student debt to someone else. If you do not have student debt you may just be under as a reference.

    Shill Alert Here -
Be Careful Folks -- Reviewing the posts in this thread and after doing some checking on the internet, I would be very careful before listening to or doing business with Central Research.  Tony is right, the number is not a scam, but many reports about Central Research refer to ... "irregularities" in the the conduct of their debt collection business and other transactions concerning Student Loans. There are issues related to their marketing cold calls as well.

Central Research has been mentioned as a debt collector trying to collect on debt what were not owed.  This is not a good sign.
The Student Debt market is big business, and complex enough so that scams are all too common.

Hmmmm.... not a great sign that "Tony" puts his post up out of the blue.  I don't think he got a call from CR, so the odds are VERY good he is here doing some damage control and Shilling.   Not a good sign at all...

They don't have a Dept. of Education contract so they are not out to "help people".  Legally they can tell you they are a collection agency.  The rest of the information on your employer follows so that people know how and who to sue and to report.

You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation, cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (think of it as the best $6.47 you ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

Everything else you need to know follows including at least two agencies where you should report their criminal activities.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Read up on your rights here and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Called my work asking for me saying it was a personal matter. My boss has answered the phone because I wasn't here yet. They didn't give any information or anything. I've read people's comments about student debt but mine is already being taken care of? I have monthly payments coming from my bank account to where they are supposed to go. Why am I getting calls when I've set up a payment option already?

I feel for their speech you're going to jail,  damn I feel dumb as [***]. They are saying I took out a payday loan here in Arizona in 2011, I believe in 2006 Arizona passed it where you couldn't get a payday loan instead you would have to get a title loan against your car. I do not have a car this man Patrick today I could get on my knees under the bridge downtown phx to make the money, asked how much I weigh, told him it was none of his business. I had previously given them my debt card number. After realizing what was being done, I called back to see exactly what was really going on. I wanted dates to this offense could not provide me with any dates. No case number. Nothing. So I calmly said you no longer have my permission to deduct anything from said acct number. He told me if payment did not go thru he would make sure my ass went to jail. I kept telling him the only reason I gave it was because I felt like I was bullied and not understanding what was really going on.  I asked if it was a government agency and he said it was a law office. What kind of law office speaks to disabled people this way he said your knees aren't disabled you could use them to get the money together. I said some explicit words to him and told him have a good day.  Cancelled that debit card and calling my bank and explaining the situation. Hopefully, I can stop this scam from taking what little bit of social security I get. Does anyone know what else I can do. I feel like they are just scammers. I never received a payday loan.

You know you can google them right? and add in Department of Education and see their contract, their actual contract. It isn't difficult. Federal Government and all that. Maybe you should try
