Actually, there was a report on the ABC Nightly News about a week or so ago saying this is a new scam.  They get you to say "yes" and call you back later to say you owe them money.  When you deny it, they play back a message asking if you agree to the terms and your voice answering back.

This is now a current popular scam.  Google:  Say Yes Phone Scam.
There are a number of legit businesses that do what is sometimes called Third Party Verification Steps were a recording of your voice is used as part of processing a payment or confirming a business transaction.  There have been credible reports by posters on this site as well.
-- btw, The Kool-Aid is all gone.  I had the cake, and it was delicious.

As others have already written on here, no message was left when this call went to the answering machine.  As far as anybody being stupid enough to think you will owe somebody money just because you say yes in to a telephone (or even in person), I refer you to the old legal saying that a verbal contract is worth the paper it is printed on.  If you do not give anybody your financial or personal information, then there is literally no way they can get your money no matter how loud you scream yes or how many languages you say yes in.  If somebody calls and says you owe them money because they recorded you saying yes, then just tell them to sue you because there is no way they will sue you (legitimate or illegitimate, no company is going to waste time and money going after only you in what would probably be a small claims court) and if they did the judge would laugh them out of court if their whole case is you being recorded saying the word yes (even if you meant yes to their transaction, no law says you could not change your mind after saying yes).

First of all, what an imaginative number! 844-844! Hahaha!!! Second of all, I didn't answer it (like others on here) and let it go to voicemail. And as usual, no message left. Typical scammers! And it didn't have ANYTHING on my caller ID except the "phone number", unlike what others have reported on their phones.

Call every day, I normally don't answer but today I did. Wanted me to change phone and tv provider (windstream for phone, Direct TV for tv, but we didn't get that far) told me I was paying too much, I told him I don't care, I like to spend money. It's no doubt a scam, especially since there was no mention of what company they were calling from.

This number also called my landline tonight at 8:28 pm, I am assuming it was blocked after the first ring but since I had the hair dryer going and was in another room that does not have a phone, I never heard it ring. I would not have answered anyway, first rule is never to answer any suspicious or unrecognizable numbers.

Had a long conversation with three levels of sales people there. Each one with a fake name and an accent trying very hard to be American. Good deal for bundled internet/phone/tv from spectrum. I would not give them personal information, for which the "senior manager" called me "out of your mind" and "have no sense", and eventually said bye. The deal may be good. I think it's a company that works for commision. However, I did not feel comfortable with them.

4-1-17 2:54P EDST got a call from Jimmy with heavy Asian accent. I had trouble understanding him. He knew I had home land line with Frontier communications. He said he was with Time Warner Spectrum and could give me the same service for $25 less per month plus free long distance all over US and 30 foreign countries. He said he could give me a big discount on my TV and internet as well and a speed over 30kbps. (Right now I am with Spectrum and my speed is over 60kbps). He asked me for my birthdate or my wife's birthdate. I told him I never gave personal data like that unless I placed the call for something I wanted and knew who I was talking to, and since he called me, I would need a number to call him back on that was answered by a Spectrum phone tree. He said I would be getting a call within 2 hours with details on the amounts of my discounts and the total amount of my next Spectrum bill. I kept repeating that I was not signing up for anything nor was I agreeing to any changes to my existing service, but I would take the next call to hear how much I would save. I just typed this in minutes after my call with Jimmy< I don't know if they will call me back or not, but if they do, I will write another report here.

Continuing my notes from above: After I wrote the note above I called the number on my caller ID {844-844-0091} twice, and it did not ring but went to an audible non-completion tone that sounds like starting and stopping dial tone. I AM ALWAYS SUSPICIOUS IF THE CALLER ID IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH A LEGITIMATE NUMBER THAT SOMEONE ANSWERS. Jimmy called me back and this time he seemed to be looking at my Spectrum Bill because he knew all my services and how much I was paying. So this may be a legitimate call. He promptly told me that I was not eligible for his promotion because I already had one VOIP phone line with Spectrum, which was true. With this, we ended the call.
