- Mary T| 1 replyThis number appears to be used by a technology scam outfit who convinces you that your IP address has been HACKED and they try to gain access to your computer using Team Viewer. Heavy Indian accents. They don't know the US geographically so can't really answer, when asked, where their business is located.
They identify themselves as "WINDOWS" and propose to have some official connection to Microsoft. They said they were going to report this situation (after they get on your PC) to the FBI.
CALL THE FBI FOR THEM. THEY ARE HIJACKERS and SCAMMERS. I called the FBI when I finally figured it out but they were VERY CONVINCING and I'm NOT STUPID.- Caller: FAKE WINDOWS SUPPORT
- Arizona| 1 replyWe received a call from these people too. Knew it was a scam from the get go. He was quite annoyed that I asked for his number. Really wanted some information from my computer. I told him I would not be by my computer until tomorrow so I needed his name and number. His name was James. He claimed he worked for "Windows" I explained to him that Windows was not a company, it was an operating system. Then he said they work for Microsoft. He tried telling me people were using my computer to hack. His urgent tone is convincing, but not convincing enough.

- PennnsylvaniaI had the same issue as Mary T. and Arizona, I wasn't as smart. I did give them personal informaiton however something told me to Google the number immediately after hanging up with them. Saw these posts and found the Real number(1866-234-6020) for Windows tech help. I explained to them what happened and they were able to uninstall what they did. I cancelled my credit card, changed my e-mail user name, and blocked their number through my cable company. May seem like a lot but I did all of those things within an hour the very same day. They were very persistant...even told me I could pay half upfront and the balance later. Microsoft tech said don't accept any calls from people who have info. about your computer and that many people are out of $100's of dollars because these people. BTW the man who I talked to name was Cyrus ID# 8863, who claimed to be the Supervisor the first person i spoke to name was Shirley. The will never get dime or won't be able to get in contact with me because now I Don't Exist.

- NebraskaSame phone call - 2nd one - first call a week ago - male- heavy accent saying he was from microsoft (microsoft doesn't call people). Today - Female - Shirley. Told her I could n't find the "windows" key on my computer - asked if there was a number I could call her back at - same number and extension as "Jennifer" in the post from Carman - and as Shirley on the post from a previous caller - didn't give them any personal information.
- Caller: "windows" and "microsoft"
- CTReceived a call from 844-866-4626 asking for me by name.
Much like the info above about my computer being Hacked. When queried, female said she was located in California. Readily gave me her phone number, name and employee id. Jennifer #8863. Calling from Windows. Said the call was urgent and my computer was being hacked "right now"
I goggled the number she gave and found this information. I passed the information on to her, and told her the post said to "call the FBI."
She paused, I explained I wasn't giving her any information and hung up.
The background noise was filled with many voices, each repeating similar monologues. The same phone number could be heard.
Thanks for the quick return on the information.- Caller: Windows
- Ms. Coleen HubbardI got a call from a company leading me to believe that they were with Microsoft and that I had a lot of scammers and hackers on my computer and that my computer was about to crash. I was a fool. They said they could fix it for free. Now for $199 they will fix it.

- MikeSame thing happened to me with identical response's from people above. What amazed me he knew my computer address. The only difference he was a male person with broken English because the first person was really bad and hard to understand. I got up to the point where they wanted me to load Team Viewer, but did not. I hope I did not compromise myself.

- aggravated mamaSame as above. James William #8866 from telephone number 844-866-4626. Indian accent. Again, very urgent and convincing, but I wasn't falling for it. Said hackers were attacking my computer within last 24 hrs and they got critical reports of this "Emergency". He is very concerned that I am going to call him back, because my computer may shut down, and it isn't my fault. Anyway, needless to say, they aren't getting anything from me.

- Karen| 1 replyi got the same phone call from number 844-866-4626, I'd 8866, name Shelly. When I refused to give credit card info they crashed my computer.
- Caller: Said from Windows
- Slim replies to KarenSince the scammers accessed the computer, they probably did one or more of the following:
• Disabled the anti-virus software
• Added nasty malware to the computer
• Copied the Contact List (so they can email your soon-to-be ex-friends)
• Copied any financial data or passwords they could find
• Compromised the ID
• "Zombied" the computer, so it would respond to THEIR commands sent via internet
• Deleted some important files
• Asked for money to repair the damage they caused
What can you do immediately after such an attack?
1. Pull the cables on the computer, so it cannot access the internet.
2. Change ALL passwords stored on the computer
3. Run FULL malware scans on the computer, in "SAFE" mode!
4. Change the passwords again, particularly if the malware scans showed anything
5. Inform your bank and credit card companies
6. Sign up for credit monitoring, and check the status frequently
7. You may have to bring the computer to a local repair shop, and tell them the story.
8. Tell friends what happened, so they can be aware of strange emails from you
9. Plug in the computer only AFTER all the above have been done
10. Change the passwords on all online accounts. Even better - access a "safe", uninfected computer, and chance your online account passwords RIGHT NOW.
