Imposter scam - impersonating PayPal by email, told to call this number

From a phishing/scam email about claiming to confirm a Paypal payment for an iPhone.

pay pal email scam. wanted me to confirm a purchase of an Iphone.

pay pal email scam.  this should be shut down.

Same iPhone scam. Called the number and it was overseas .....Guy was verbally abusive...

Received e mail saying a purchase of IPhone for $320 was confirmed.  Called and was told it would be deleted--rep's name was John Smith--even the name was a SCAM !

Exactly the same story except I got Henry Blake. Went almost all the way through "rectifying" the scam until I started buying him gift cards from PayPal. Oh god -- don't do anything except call the real PayPal fraud dept and report them -- 402-935-7733. Also should've realized -- it was coming from a gmail account, not service@paypal.com. They reversed charges and then I changed ALL my passwords and usernames. UGH.

If you open the email, don't call the number listed, don't open any links. Forward the email to spoof@paypal.com and delete the email. As stated by a previous comment Paypal can be reached at 402-935-7733 if any further assistance is needed.

Yes i received the same email so i called the number just to call ther bluff. He claimed to be paypal and hung up on me.

Received email from PayPal confirming a $300.00 purchase and to call this number if I didn't make that purchase. Immediately knew it was a scam, looked the number up and this email is being sent to many apparently. Total scam.

Got two of the same email with the same number listed. Luckily the emails ended were sorted into my junk folder so I was suspicious  from the start. As far as scams go this is a slightly more credible looking one so i hope more people have the skepticism to have them research the phone number before calling and giving away their info. So thank you for taking the time to make this post.

Just got an email stating I bought a Apple Watch for $399 and if I didn't to contact 1-844-882-1657. It shows it the company that sent it was PayPal.. So I thought I would look here first.

Yep!  I "ordered" a $350 Mini Home Pod.  NOPE, TRY AGAIN YOU FOOLS!!!  Says it came from PayPal.  Not this time, morons.....LOL!

Same as everyone else. Email from”PayPal” saying I bought a laptop and to call if that wasn’t correct.

That email should have gone to your spam folder. Forward it to paypal.

Never call numbers that come in emails that way. They want to get access to your phone or better still, your computer.  Scams like this are run from India.

Got an email about a grocery order from Paypal I didn't order. Came to check here. Glad you guys exist!

Also got an email from Grocery Get saying I ordered through paypal. Made the mistake of calling the number but hung up once I heard the guy.

Same as the others, email about a fake grocery order, looking for info.  And it somehow gets through 2 different spam filters...

Same as everyone else. Got a receipt via email saying I bought an apple watch, told to call this number if unauthorized (844-882-1657). The return email was <hangstoll654@gmail.com>. Confirmed with PayPal that no payment was made, then googled the number, found this reporting page. Thanks everyone!!!
