Received the same text message. I blocked the number and immediately checked 800notes.com. Already know it's a scam. It's tax season, so the scammers are out in full force. Text said that they will be here in 1 hour from now and must be 21 with ID. Let's just remember that most of these texts originate overseas.

I got the same text as everyone else. Said I owed money, documents being sent, time of arrival, etc. The address was from 11 years ago & the last name was from 8 years ago. Divorced and remarried. For real? If this was a real debt and they are too lazy to find updated information...They must not want the money too badly!! LOL! Besides...this turnip is COMPLETELY out if blood!!

Just received one of these text with a notice number and documents (in -misspelled) route to arrive at 3:34 pm.  Has anyone not called the 855 number and has anyone showed up to your door?  My name and address is in all CAPS wanting signature and photo ID.  What part of theU.S. do you live.  I'm in TN.

Nobody is going to show up at anyone's door and it does not matter where in the U.S. you live.

This is a scam, plain and simple and the people texting these messages are criminals.

They want you to call them back so they can try to convince you to give them money for a debt that does not exist.  They will tell you that they are going to take you to court, unless you agree to pay them right away (usually agreeing to settle for less than the original amount of the "debt" that they claim you owe.)  They are hoping to find those gullible individuals that will assume that since the scammers have valid information about them (name, address, phone number) the other things the scammers tell them about the debt and court case are also correct.  But, just because some things they tell you are true, that does not mean all of it is.

Scammers can get your information from a number of sources.  You may have posted it yourself on a social media account that they (or a bot) skimmed it off of, they may have bought information from any of the many data breaches into company computer systems that have happened over the past decade or so, or they may be overseas and are employed by one of the many companies that do outsourced "customer service" for North American companies and thus have access to the customer databases (just to mention a few possibilities).  Often these sources are old and out of date so the last names and addresses they have do not reflect current reality (see Lynn Williams post above) and may not even match up to the person who currently has the phone number they texted.

Even if you did actually owe a debt, there are laws and rules governing debt collection which a legitimate debt collector would follow and their behavior would not be like this.  But then, as I stated above, these are criminals and this is a scam.

this is a whole scam address was wrong and all. i'm sick of these scammers trying to get people, we should quarantine these people for a bit lock them out of being able to get info and stop companies from selling information about people for data. enough is enough!
