rcvd call from person who identified themself as a project manager for norton - told me my computer was infected - i just had the computer tuned up and there are no problems - what is going on

This is a scam. They are not with norton anti virus.

They told me they were from Microsoft, guess Norton fired them for doing such a good job. Heavy accent, could not understand either of those who called.

I would get like 4 calls a day from these people. I never answered and finally added to my "auto reject" list. I got yet another call and after it was "auto rejected" I called the number back. Whoever answered had the thickest Indian accent I have ever heard!  All I could understand was "home". I told them to stop calling me and he attempted to say that it was not a sales call and that they were trying to help. I told him to stop calling me that it was very annoying and hung up. I HOPE that did the trick. I hate getting these calls on my cell phone.

You are the type of person even an achuta would not associate with.  .Please, do you really expect us to believe that someone from some third world country somewhere on the planet would be able to fix a computer?  How would they be able to do that from a grass hut with no electric?  Actually now that I think of it, you sound a lot like a Pakistani who lives in a cave.

This person on Caller ID is Rajiv Rakesh.  He has called 3 times on 3 separate days to say that he was a Norton Internet Security Tech Support person calling me to state that my computer had a virus in it and that there were errors from Microsoft stating that my computer needed to be fixed.  I told him that I don't deal with calls that are from telemarketers and scammers and hung up. That was the 3rd time and the other 2 times he had called claiming that my Norton Security was bad and had to be replaced.  After the 3rd time, I called Norton and Microsoft and reported this to them so that they could report it to the authorities.  If you get a call from this guy, please DO NOT give out your personal info and call Norton and/or Microsoft to ask them if they do this, by placing cold calls.  Both Norton and Microsoft told me that they don't call people unless they get hung up or disconnected when they do remote access on fixing your computer or something like that.  This guy is a scammer and should be stopped.

Just got the same Norton call. I don't have Norton on my new computer . He instructed me to go to my computer and that is when I hung up. Ew! Scammer!

I got a call from this # 845-262-3296 and he said he was from Norton and that they have been getting an error on my computer for about a month.  i asked him to give me the number and i would have to call him back.  i called the 800 # i have for Norton and they said they would NOT call me, that they would not know of any issue unless i call them!!!  she also said they have been receiving these types of calls a lot lately.  i gave her the # and she is taking it to add to reports.

Received a call from a man with an Indian accent claiming to be from a company called "Fixbytech" that handles computer problems for Microsoft once the computer goes out of warranty.  My computer went out of warranty about 5 years ago.  He knew my name and email address (very interesting).  The phone number he was calling from was blocked, I couldn't see it.  He told me that there were 17 other people using my email address fraudulently and had me run the DOS command "netstat".  He then told me that each of the reported TCP connections with a status of ESTABLISHED was someone using my email address.  WHAT A CROCK OF [***] !!!  He wanted me to allow him access to my computer so that he could "fix my problem".  That's when I hung up and found this site.

Folks - if someone calls you out of the blue like this and claims you have problems that they would like to fix, chances are you are about to be scammed.  Don't fall for their fancy tech talk.  Either they are going to search your computer for personal info or they are going to try to sell you some software that you probably don't need.

Last year a doctor of mine got this same scam and when he called, they wanted over $300 to fix his computer. He reloaded his operating system himself. He had saved files offline. This scam was on local news in 2014.

On May 31, 2015, I clicked on what I thought was a music website link. Instead, I got a frozen Blue screen that said  - 0X000000CE Blue Screen Error, BSOD Error 333 Registry Failure of Operating System, Do not restart, Contact Host: a Microsoft Technician, 0X000000CE Driver_unloaded_without_cancelling_sending_operation, WINDOWS Health is critical, phone: 1-866-826-1919, tool-free helpline. I did not call.
I could not close Internet explorer. I ran Norton full system scan then turned off the internet. Turned off/on twice and still got blue screen. Turned off third time and reran Norton scan. Internet Explorer was not working right. Downloaded Norton bootable recovery tool. Don't know what happened but the computer finally worked again. Computer has been slow when online since.

Today I got a call from 845-262-3296 on an old cell phone number. It appears this is same scam as the one on my computer. I did not answer and checked this website.

This man called saying I had reported a problem with my computer, which is totally made up. He hung up when I started pressing him for more information. I called the number back and he claimed to from Norton Security. Total BS. This is a scam.

Has been calling daily for about 2 wks, never answer name displayed is Rakesh Rajiv. Finally tired of it so answered no one there.....How the heck do we get these people to stop Do Not Call one of the biggest wastes of our money EVER.

stop calling me with your lies. computer hackers...I know this for sure cause they hacked mine.

Got a call again tonight. No message. Give up scammers. I run Norton after every use now. You are not Norton.

Most of these calls are coming from India and Pakistan. Not much you can do short of block them.  You can also report them to Microsoft.
