got a call on 5-14-2008 from this number did not leave a message on our mach. caller i.d. is authentify inc we have never heard of them so do not know why they called us.

This is eBay. It is an automated number that calls your number to verify it is you that put an item up for sale. Someone is putting in wrong numbers it appears.

They don't call you unless YOU do something to prompt it. If you didn't prompt it, like changing a paypal password or creating a listing on ebay then I suggest selecting no and then try to figure out if your accounts were compromised. Not everyone is a telemarketer. Ebay told me up front that I would be getting a phone call to verify my listing. Maybe ya'll should read the fine print.

In the last week I received two phone calls in the middle of the night originating from this number. It was an automated message saying "This is eBay. If you expected this call, press 2". I haven't done anything to prompt such action, haven't had any activity on my eBay account and have deactivated notifications by telephone. Actually the first call I received originated from a different number but the same message. 847-9502415

same as below...If you are expecting  this call press pound  was the message on my voicemail.... not a message i would answer nor trust...
how could i be expecting a call from an area code and number in which i am not familiar with..........

called at 6:33 pm and automated message system said: "Please wait for the next available representative", what I did not do, of course

Left message on voice mail that said if you are expecting this call press 7.  We are on the do not call list.

Its either e-bay or pay pal.  As soon as either u put an item for sell or sign up for pay pal, they'll give u a call to confirm its you.  So if people are getting calls from this number, it is likely someone used ur number to sign up for pay pal or start selling on e-bay.

Received call very puzzling, no person available.  Called the number and just get a busy signal.

That is not legit business practices to call 4 times in a row. I am pretty sure this is a scam. I have been a paypal and ebay member for nearly ten years and never received a phone call from them until I got this 4 times in a row today.

I don't trust the people on here who say the number is legit, they are probably the ones that set up some sort of scam. or maybe im just paranoid. id side with caution though.

It's a call from Ebay to verify your identity if you try to sell something from a computer they don't recognize. When you try to list an auction you have to allow them to call you in order to give you a 4 digit code that allows them to confirm that it's you trying to list an item on your account. It's a major pain in the butt since I have to do this every time I list something even though I've been selling with this computer for over 2 yrs.

It's Ebay. I had this no call when I had to verify the IP of my pc when selling some goods.

This number calls to confirm that you entered a correct phone number with eBay, among other things.  when you sell on eBay the first time, eBay wants a number in case there is a problem.  eBay confims your number using this confirmation provider.  Other companies probably use it too.

Said from Ebay and asks in an automated fashion if I was expecting the call, 1 for no 2 for yes. After repeated no's, I pressed 2 and received a 4 digit pin, again in an automated voice.  Spoke to ebay and they advise it wasn't them.  Not sure what's going on.

Had this call Dec 31/08 and ask if I expect this call to press 9 (nine), this is a new twist as all other callers listed were ask to press pound key. I hung up. Anyone knows about 9 to be press?

How can it be legit when I NEVER give out my cell phone number to business?
eBay has only my home phone number. This computer voice is either soliciting (using up my minutes) or is a scam. I wonder if Verizon can block this number.

We got this call today around dinner time. Said they were calling from ebay and rattled off some PIN number. We hung up and they called right back again with same message. Calls are coming from Wood Dale IL landline number,but it seems to be unlisted.

I actually got a call from elance.com from this number -- it was a phone number confirmation.

I didn't know paypal and elance.com (it's a job posting site for freelancing, as well as an escrow site for such things) had any ties to PayPal.

Received a call around 10:00 PM saying that it was ebay and that if you are expecting the call to press 8. I was suspicious, so I just hung up.  I haven't done anything on any of my online accounts, so from reading this, I assume that someone entered my # in as a bogus # somewhere. Yay.
