- Erin| 6 repliesCalled stating there has been a formal complaint filed and wanting to know the whereabouts of said person. And that their next step will be to file the necessary paperwork with the county court. Idk how to feel about it. Cuz I haven't received anything in the mail via certified mail.

- BigA replies to Erin| 4 repliesThis is a common ploy by criminals masquerading as debt collectors who are attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt. One of the tricks they use is to call your work place, friends, or relatives repeatedly in an attempt to shame you into paying. They also use the “process server” ruse who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number. Please note that process servers do not ever call ahead. That way you can’t dodge them.

- Tired replies to ErinI received the same call. This one came on the heels of another call last week stating I have some felony fraud charge pending and can be dropped if I pay money that day. I know nothing of such, however, they did have some knowledge of my personal info, although I did not verify anything. I think it must be some scam, but it has worried me for the past week. Now I got this call today. I did not respond to it. I am tired of being harrassed.
- Be WaryThese people called: My home phone, cell phone, office phone and brother-in-law about a fictitious loan I never had and threatened recriminations. I asked them to mail me the information to which I have a legal right (they said they don't do that) and then I told them my sister is an attorney (true fact) and would handle this for me ... I just needed to get the information via USPS to give to her. They got really huffy and extremely obnoxious and hung up on me twice. I forwarded their number to my sister. Total scam.

- MimiI've been I received this same exact call today. Plus the calls about having a case pending stained me in their desk I need to call before a certain time. Or the ones where I or my attorney need to return their call if not that means they have the right to process with the case stained me. Recently one called and said to call immediately or they would send police for me at my home and job. I decided to return that call .being that never said a specific name I made one up. They had to transfer me . A guy answers he goes on to say I owe 2250 how do I want to pay . I ask what do I owe that for. He repeated how do you want to pay. I asked again what do I owe for. He got ugly with me and said he was going to send the police for me. I told him you are talking to the police. That name I gave you is fake just like you are fake. Of course he hung up. I wish I could have seen his face. Lol

- Jenn| 1 replyHave called my dad and my mom stating the same thing about a formal complaint against me. I get these type of phone calls often about a payday loan. I have contacted my depression of finance numerous times, filled reports, and ignored the calls-it never stops. A few months later a different number with a "different company " name calls again. Its extremely frustrating, stressful and exhausting. Anyone have any other suggestions on how to handle this? It's been happening for almost two years now. 😠 and there using more then this number. I received a phone call from this phone number stating that i was going to be served papers on July 29th for an outstanding payday loan?? I don't have any outstanding loans. I asked the guy to send me an email with the information and he said okay. I haven't received anything yet. I asked for my address on file and he gave me a really old address. I'm not sure if this is legit or not. I received calls about this very same loan from scammers. This guy didn't sound like a scammer, he seemed intelligent enough, but I don't think I can take this seriously. Has anyone else received this?
the difference between this guy and the others... he sounded pretty smart. Unless I scared the other people enough that they had to call me with a person who knows a few legal terms and is quick on his feet. He was really good. They had my old bank account information. I said, I paid all my old loans. He replied, "you paid off one loan and now there is a second loan that wasn't deducted from your personal checking account"
yes he said that. Smarter than the other ones. I told him that the statute of limitations expired on this collection for the state of az. He said, "well the statute doesn't actually start until the final collector receives the request."
this is not true, this is not a rape case. then I told him. i looked up my court information and if I were to be served this friday July 29 that, I would in fact be able to look up the pending civil case against me. It would be there already. he replied, :"this is federal"
even though I know he is scamming me. He was smart enough to make me question it. Now here is the question. Is this guy the scam or is this legit. I need help weighing this out. Or putting my mind at ease. My knowledge of simple law and collections wins this battle of wits. However, he was very convincing. He never once yelled, nor screamed, nor argued. He just acted like a normal person trying to collect a debt. However, he didn't tell me that this was being recorded so that gave it away too- Caller: P "something"

- BigA replies to RedThey are required by law to mail that information, not e mail, fax, or even smoke signals. Never ever pay a debt collector until and if they have not only validated the debt, but prove that they have the right to collect said debt, in writing, sent US mail. Now read my other post and use the links to report these crooks.
