- George H| 5 repliesmessage: "(my first name) my name is ( ) and I'm contacting you in regards for a case is in the process of being filed through (a county I don't live in). The case is not being filed against you. It is actually being filed against (my son's first & last name). This message is to make you aware that your name and address is provided the most likely location for him. At this point Mr. (my son's last name) has a legal right to contact the proceedings office filed the case information. However once the case as well that would no longer be an option. The phone number for the proceedings office is 855-213-7106. When he calls he needs to provide his file number . This is considered legal notification by Telephone that (my son's first & last name) will be located at your residence unless I am told otherwise." I do not believe this to be an actual legal notification call.
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- MJG replies to George HThis is NOT "legal notification by Telephone". Phone calls mean NOTHING (the same for faxes & emails). Giving you information about a third party is also ILLEGAL!!. IF they had a claim, you/he would NOT be warned - this is an extortion attempt. They did not even give a company name, did they?
- Keith replies to George HVery much so a scam. I contacted my local courts and I am not even in the system. I called the scammers back and they still insisted this was real. Bunch of losers.
- Daniela S. replies to George HI was left several voice mail with this exact message from the number 855-2139388 saying a legal law sue was processed against me. I contact my the people I was in debt with (paydayloan) and they said they dont sur people.. this was very much helpfull yo ser that I was being scammed . Thanks
- SLI also had a similar phone call from 720-893-1844, the same message, claiming they have a case against me. Upon looking up the case number on our county's website, it yielded nothing. The individual from this phone number is from "Sarah Williams", telling me to call an 855-213-1297 number. And googling this number led to this post. I'm also in the same boat as your son, wondering if it is legal or not.
But two things I have noticed:
1. Sarah Williams says that she's with a "location services" and doesn't identify *what* location services and for *who*, and also stated she is not collecting on a debt (yes, she is, she's leaving me a number to call in order to set up a payment plan, so that's a lie). She called my father and my brother giving them a similar message. She has to have a company she's attached to, come on. And if you call her number back, her voice mail is conveniently full.
2. Calling the 855 number, they tell me they are with "legal services". I told them that the previous person, Sarah Wiliams, has violated the FDCPA and they immediately get aggressive with me about that, and honestly, I'm just like "dude, I don't want to argue with you", I'm just telling you what a debt collector told me. No one from this number told me WHO they are affiliated with. If you call them on weekends, you do not get any sort of voice mail, a voice telling you business hours, and the company you have reached.
And this is regarding a debt that I owe to Ace Cash Express (which I do have and I'll admit I lapsed on). I don't think it's a scam, I am pretty confident that this is a debt collector not following the FDCPA and using scare tactics to collect a debt. It doesn't really make sense that they have a "case" and they're going to "file" it. I've been served papers in the past, but never have I gotten these phone calls. They send you letters in the mail, then if they can't reach you, they do the thing of serving papers, you can negotiate a debt with them, and settle it without having to go to court. None of this makes any sense.
No one has told me who they work for, no one said anything about a payment confirmation via email or letter, and the folks I've talked to immediately get aggressive when I start to question basic things of "why are you contacting a third party for my debt?" or why they don't say who they are. Super weird and I don't think they're doing the right thing, at all.
If it helps, I've gotten "Alltran/United Recovery Systems" sometimes when this comes up, nothing else. If you have any more info about this number being affiliated with, hey, cool. But OP, I hope this helps you and he can straight up ask for proof of debt and who they are with. Because I'm sure that he, as much as I do, wants to ensure he's paying off a debt to the right entity because I'm not paying someone unless I know who I'm paying to.
I'm just going to call Ace Cash Express, instead, and work out payment details, not these people. At least I know it's going to the original debt.- Caller: a debt collector who doesn't say who they are

- Rudy B replies to George H| 1 replyI received a voicemail using the EXACT same script. Someone having my full legal name and phone number was jarring until I realized that they never stated the company or department they are with. The threat of them coming to my home was supposed to compel me to call them back urgently to clear it all up. Of course they will then claim to need to "confirm" my information "for security purposes" and pull other information from me. I'm ignoring it it. If there was really anything going on, they would state the department and Googling the callback number would also reveal that department. If this is a real mistake, I'll work it out with any process server that shows up.
- Tygerkat replies to Rudy BScam! Real process servers don't call in advance.
- NickI've received phone calls nearly identical to the ones described about. Last one was from a "Nina Williams" that was calling from "location services". They are all scammers.
