    I got a call a few nights ago, didn't answer it, it was 443-873-1158, said similar things as above, then today got a call from 'unknown' and left the phone number of 855-216-9796, about court, being on notice, etc...Don't have a clue what they're talking about. i don't know the person they were asking for.

    My person has been calling from blocked and started months ago, thecalls are exactly word for word the same as what InTexas has posted. Now the calls are more frequent and they actually did show up today. My phone rang about 4 times bc I kept hanging it up, and next thing you know there is a white chevy in my driveway honking the horn.

    I've received the same call repeatedly. It shows up as a blocked number rings once then hangs up & calls back immediately. I don't answer blocked calls. They are saying I owe a debt but I have filed bankruptcy so my debts are all cleared thanks to the legal system. I am beginning to think of changing my phone number to alleviate this (and for another reason as well). They can serve me papers all they like, but I've never had a payday loan and my other debt is gone.

    I think this is nothing more than a scare tactic otherwise they wouldn't use call blocking.

    These people have called me MANY times with the phone number either blocked, unknown, or a random 800 number. Today they called with the 716-332-5985 number. They have been calling me for months off and on and they are very rude. They've called my cell phone, my work, my ex-husband, my mother and my grandmother. I never put any of my family members numbers on anything so I don't know how they got those numbers. I have had different people leave messages and they say the same thing every time. They make up a story insinuating that I am being sued and say that they will be at my house or place of business at (insert random date and time) to give me paperwork. First of all, I looked up the 716 area code and it's in New York. I live in Texas, how is this call center, collections, bogus person, going to be at my house or place of business tomorrow to "give me paperwork"? I'm really, really scared. (Rolls eyes) It is RIDICULOUS that this place is calling people and outright lying to people and TELLING them they need to pay a debt but they won't give information about said debt. I am tired of them harassing me at work and my family also. If anyone has any advice, I would appreciate it, Thank you.

    I believe this tactic is in use by debt collectors.

    My understanding of the credit reporting system is that the collector wants you to react by calling them.  In so doing, it makes the reporting status of that debt as recent and it possibly restarts the 7 year credit reporting on the debt, as well as raises the importance of the debt as it relates to your credit score.

    To Debt Collectors:  If you have a notice for me to appear in court, send it.  I'm here.

    Is there an address that can be used to press harrassment charges. When I ask for an address the person gets extremely rude and make it seems like a have murder charges getting pressed against me saying he is going to serve me with papers!! It did get my heart racing. It is out of control and they need to be stopped. Any ideas on how to stop the madness!!!!

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
    Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

    Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

    Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

    I also had a similar call but the number was 855-817-5602 and she gave me a 6 digit number as a reference number and she said if I don't call that number she is gonna come to my house at 700pm to serve me papers and she the papers have to be hand given and can not be mailed and she even had my address wrong I did not give them no bank information so she slam the phone down on me and its not even business hours to do this kind of thing.The number she called me from was a 973 200 2404 number and I tried calling that number back and it's out of service pse give suggestions or advice. She also says she is a locator whatever that is?

    I just received the same call and she left a message stating, "This is Samantha and I have a letter of intent to appear in court for you to sign.  I am leaving the office in a couple of hours and will see you in a couple of days to sign the papers.  Please call this number at 877-275-6548 about case #......"  At first, I freaked out. After a moment,  logic kicked in...1) I looked at my caller ID and it said private number, 2) I live in SC and the call back number is to New York and 3)  my research led me to this site which confirms my suspicions about this phone call.  I am reporting them asap!  In the meantime, how do you get them to stop calling you?  Thanks for all posts and feedback!
