Claimed to be LADWP and said a technician is in our area and is going to shut off the power because our bill is 2 months past due.  When I said they aren't our vendor, they don't service our property, the guy hung up on me. TOTAL SCAM!

The caller (with heavy accent) claimed to be from LADWP and urged that our power bill is past due. On my offer to call them back left this number with ext: 1706. Scam.

A guy with a very thick accent called and said he was from the LADWP, and that "someone will be out in the next 45 min. to an hour to shut off the electricity" because of an over due-bill with the amount of "$937.48". Since this is a business, I told him I would have to speak to the owner about it and get back to him. He then gave me the number to the "Billing and Disconnection Dept." (855-223-4383 ext 1706) and said to call them to make payment arrangements. I told him that, because I don't have the account number or the information of the account holder, I didn't think they could help me. He assured me that "they will be very happy to help because they don't like to see anyone's electricity turned off" (by this time, I was having a hard time not laughing in his ear). I called the number (I just wanted to mess with them a bit. After all, THEY were messing with me!) and a very raspy LADWP recorded greeting answered the phone, and then another guy with a very thick accent who wanted payment info to pay "the bill" picked up. I told him to send in the technician that was supposedly going to appear to shut off the power and I'd be happy to pay him/her. He said they don't do that anymore because some of the technicians were keeping part of the money and telling them that people were paying less than they actually were. I told him I'd pay with a check, so they wouldn't have to worry about that. He began to sound extremely flustered and ended the call.

About 15 minutes later, I got another call from the first guy who asked if I had called the "Billing and Disconnection Dept."to make the payment. I told him the same thing; that I would only pay the tech that was going to shut off our power. He got really mad and said "I told you, you have to pay at the Billing and Disconnection Dept.!" At that point, I told him that I was not some poor, unsuspecting elderly lady and he wasn't going to scam me, and he said, "Ma'am--F**K YOU then ma'am!". Wish I could have chatted longer but at that point, I cracked up (it was the "Ma'am thing that got me!) and then a customer walked in so I had to cut our conversation short. LOL!
