- Tygerkat replies to Thuy Le| 4 repliesEmails and phone calls are not legal methods of debt validation. If they refuse to follow the law by mailing you proof of the debt, you know this is a scam.

- JustinCase replies to pays his billsNor does it mean the receiver has any outstanding debt in order to get them. Crooks spoof the numbers of legitimate collectors in an attempt to swindle money. You might consider knowing for certain the receiver is actually in debt before you go accusing them of such things. If you're paying high interest, I'd be looking at yourself, instead. The fact this number this number has been reported as working is the reason for the call, not necessarily because the owner 'doesn't pay their bills'.~I Was Prepared~JustinCase
- Jay Oh| 1 replyReceived a call from "Melissa" from 716-508-3572 with a return ph# of 855-230-3973 for "FM Capital" regarding a "Robert Barone" and mention of a social security number and a pending complaint. I have no clue who this person is or how the caller had my full name. It has to be a scam of some sort as I see similar complaints.
- Caller: Melissa FM Capital
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- MikeHuntleton replies to Jay OhGenerally these scammers search online for a name or number and try to connect the dots until they have enough to try convincing a victim they owe money. Your name, number or address might have come up in those searches and they might be phishing for information for their "target" victim.
Debt Extortion Scammers
Most debt collectors will use a certain amount of pressure to convince you to pay the debt. After all, they often don't get paid unless you pay. Be suspicious of a debt collector who uses an unusual amount of pressure to get you to pay immediately, particularly if they also use scare tactics to get you to pay right away. For example, a debt collector is scamming you if it :- threatens you with a lawsuit and tells that you can avoid the lawsuit by paying right away
- Says a Process Server or Courier is coming with papers to sign
- Threatens to call / go to your place of employment
- Insists you have been notified, served or are non-compliant via phone message(s)
- Refuses to give a company name or verifiable Contact source
- Refuses to send proof of debt via US mail
A sure sign of a debt collection scam is a collector that wants to you to pay via wire transfer or another method that can't be traced. If the payment method can't be traced, you'll have a harder time getting the authorities involved.
If the creditor sounds completely foreign, or you know you never had an account with that business, there's a chance it's a scam. Never pay a collection you don't recognize. You have the right to request written proof of the debt from the debt collector before you send payment. - Don| 1 replyCalled me and left a message regarding papers to be served at my place of employment which they seem to know. The identical message was left on my cell and my wife's cell during a 2 week period. I have no idea who this person is.
- Call type: Debt collector
- Tygerkat replies to DonIt's a scammer. Real process servers don't call in advance.
- Cynthia SteeleThis is a business, caller looking for a former employee trying to collect on bad debt. When I told him the person he is looking for is no longer employed at the company and to remove the number from the call list, he got rude and told me to stop blabbering! Definately a Jerk! Sound like a bottom scale debt collector.
- Caller: Debt collector
- Chris replies to Tygerkat| 1 replyThese are for the special kind of idiots that ignore 3 or 4 years of sending mail to their proper mailing address. They also refuse to respond to courtesy emails(they consent to as legal means of verification at time of loan) sent to the email account that were used to electronically transfer funds into their bank accounts. So although your horrendous legal advice is valid for an individual being contacted for the first time.....these people are dirtbags...obviously
- Tygerkat replies to ChrisDoesn't matter how many times they've ignored the physical mail, emails and phone calls are still not legal methods of debt validation. Of course, if you can give documented proof otherwise, please go ahead and post it.
- Robert GrahamThey say I owe a debt I pay on
