Caller claimed that I have an immediate matter that needed to be resolved and needs my location info. They also proceeded to call my sister and parents. It seems shady. Any insight on this?

If it was an important matter that really needed to be resolved, they would have made sure you knew who they were, what it was about and who to contact directly to ensure the matter could be resolved. My guess is it was just a debt collector phishing for info to scam with. I think it would pretty safe to ignore it and block the number.

Saying we have a matter that needs to be taken care of or legal proceedings

A Miss Taylor called and said she was arbitrators, and very important matter that really needed to be resolved today. and give out PEOPLE SS# AS CASE NUMBER.  Is it was just a debt collector scam.

They called me with the last 4 of my social, claiming to be the local county courts. They said I was going to face legal proceedings. When I called the number back, I got "Hello, this is Taylor". No mention whatsoever of the court or the "legal proceedings".

How do you know it's a scam?  What if it's true and it goes to the district clerks for court?

She said she was working for Baman Lzarnecki law firm and if I don't pay I will be sued..

Told me I owed money but when I tried to locate them, I couldn't.  They work our of a P.O;.#, not an address.  Scam...

These people are running a SCAM! Do not fall for it!

They will claim you owe a debt which you actually do not owe.  They will threaten to have you arrested if you do not pay them.  They pretend to be a legitimate collection agency, however, it is all a scam.

Do not give them your social security number (they will claim they need you to verify it) or any other personal information.  Tell them you know they are scammers and hang up.  Then contact one of the three credit reporting agencies - Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion - and request a copy of your credit report.  You are allowed one free copy each year.  If you really owe a debt, it will be on your report.  The Scammers may have told you that they are allowing you to pay them before it hits your credit report, but that's a lie.  That's not how it works.  Bad debts go on your credit report BEFORE they are sent to a collection agency.

The Scammers use a VOIP phone to spoof phone numbers of legitimate collection agencies, so the number you see on caller ID is not the actual number they are calling from.  This list is just a few of the numbers they use:  941-757-8567, 877-575-9464, 877-818-9173, 978-705-6437, 205-209-4217, 203-567-4289.

Hang up and block their calls.  Don't become a victim of their scam!

Called me trying to settle a debt without going to court and left this message. " My name is Chris Owens calling with the offices apartments are not key and Associates. "

Po box for address, I called after hours and said number non working but calls during the day.  Asked for certified letter on official company letterhead and she replied this is considered certified.   Just sounds fishy
