A vague scare tactic message designed to panic a victim into calling back.
Most debt collectors will use a certain amount of pressure to convince you to pay the debt. After all, they often don't get paid unless you pay. Be suspicious of a debt collector who uses an unusual amount of pressure to get you to pay immediately, particularly if they also use scare tactics to get you to pay right away. For example, a debt collector is scamming you if it :- threatens you with a lawsuit and tells that you can avoid the lawsuit by paying right away
- Says a Process Server or Courier is coming with papers to sign
- Threatens to call / go to your place of employment
- Insists you have been notified, served or are non-compliant via phone message(s)
- Refuses to give a company name or verifiable Contact source
- Refuses to send proof of debt via US mail
A sure sign of a debt collection scam is a collector that wants to you to pay via wire transfer or another method that can't be traced. If the payment method can't be traced, you'll have a harder time getting the authorities involved.
If the creditor sounds completely foreign, or you know you never had an account with that business, there's a chance it's a scam. Never pay a collection you don't recognize. You have the right to request written proof of the debt from the debt collector before you send payment. - BrendaI have been receiving calls for the last few weeks, and the caller says exactly what others have reported. I blocked them on my cell phone but they are attempting to contact me on my home phone as well.

- NO NameI am filing a complaint with FTC and FCC and BBB. This number is harassing all my kids, brother, husband and elderly Mom stating they have important fax documents that I requested. When I called back and told the very rude gentleman that it is against the law to harass someone constantly after being asked to stop calling, he became even more verbally abusive and I stated I'm filing a complaint with the FCC and I did and hung up. The number is still calling and harassing me so I'm calling authorities, It is very frustrating.

- Annoyed and AngrySame deal here. I called them they claimed that I have a debt with a credit card company and they're trying to collect. When I asked for their company name, they threw a quick abbreviation at me but would not ell me what it stood for. They grew very angry when I asked for written proof. I called the company they had claimed I owed and, to no one's surprise, they have no record of the account or debt the scammer claimed I owed. They call multiple times a day, from different numbers, and even leave the same voicemail with the same name but different voice!

- ferntotal scam. I have zero in collections, so NO ONE is trying to sue me or collect a balance. Do not call these people. I get these calls all day and believe it is part of the Experian hack, that's how they get your initial info. They will threaten you, but this is NOT real collections. I block and it calls from a different number. Different robocalls ,threating process servers, say they will show up at your work or house. it can be unnerving!!! This one says she is HOLLY EVANS
