- Anonymous| 1 replyI received a call from them telling me that they were process servers in a specific town and county. I asked their name, phone number, which they only provided after demanding the information three times. I asked for a mailing address the caller said it was against company policy and that he was located in the city on the forms and wanted my DOB and SSN. I told him that I just searched and 1) there was no way that he was located in that "city" and that 2) he could not give me a local phone number or even the real city and state he was located in and if I didn't answer his questions and sign a release then he would serve papers to my last known address along with local sheriff. I asked if he could tell me where the city where the local sheriff was located and he told me "the city of your last known address." When I wouldn't verify the information with him and demanded his location again, he transferred me to an "attorney" who, after many attempts, told me that she was based out of Phoenix (not where I live) and the company name was Alliance. I asked for her name, phone number, title and once again a mailing address. She told me that she could not give out that information until I proved who I was to her. I told her I would call her back after I called the local sheriff's office and she hung up on me again. They also called my parents. I called them back on the number they provided them (855-302-7752) and it was the same thing all over again. When I told them that I called the local sheriff, they hung up on me.

- Badge714By LAW, when a debt collector calls you (1) They have to tell you they are debt collectors' (2) They have to give you their name, address, & phone number, if you request it. (3) You can ask for proof of the debt in writing, to be mailed to your address (which you don't give them - a real debt collector would have it. If they won't do 1,2, & 3, or if they yell at you - it's a scam! Remember email is NOT proof.
- Mike in MD replies to AnonymousIf they call again or you call them, tell them unless they comply with Title 15 USC 1601 (the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) you are going to sue them. What they are doing is a clear violation of that law. The is information on the FTC website about what the law requires them to do and what your rights are with respect to debt collection. Also check the laws in your state. In many cases debt collectors,in state or out of state, cannot collect without being licensed in the state they are attempting to collect in.
