- An irritated individual| 3 repliesKeep trying my cell phone but never leave a message. They have never been given my mom's number and have started calling that number. They know when you change numbers and when you move. They never leave a message and never answer information about their company. They will harass you. I have blocked them and have been trying to figure out what it is I "owed". I do have Medical bills and this can be and issue by it this company is either a scan or a horrific problem.

- BigA replies to An irritated individual| 1 replyWhy would you need to figure that out? The DC is required to do this:
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices: https://800notes.com/faq/attorney-general - Frank HoustonI answered! Lady said it's recorded and asked for me by name. Stupid me confirmed! :(
- Caller: Not sure
- K BCalled and said they were a financial service agency and needed to verify my information. I asked then the name of their business and they repeated that they were a financial service agency and asked me to verify my birth year and then read a year to me. I said no thank you and hung up. Very very scammy sounding. A real company can send mail if they need to collect anything or will at least provide more information before quickly trying to collect personal info. Will block.

- Lori| 1 replyThey have called twice and asked to speak with me. When I confirm that I am the person they tell me I need to verify personal information. I asked where they were calling from and they said they could not give me that information until I verify my personal information. I told them I was not comfortable and told them to stop calling. They called after that and we went through the same process. Seems like a scam, if it was a debt collector they could send letters.
- KSThey collect for medical bills. Very willing to work with you.
