They left a voicemail about legal papers being filed in another county for a person I've never heard of. It sounds like a debt collection service (or similar) trying to find someone. They did answer when I called back, they asked if he'd ever worked here. I said no and asked that they remove the number from his record. Hopefully, they will.

These people had been harassing me for a debt that I didn't make and has been very rude and unhelpful regarding this matter of a fraudulent act that someone else has done with my ssi number and opening a bank account with out my knowledge in another state that I wasn't living in at the time !! Now they are trying to put this on my good credit report and I already have an identity theft report filed on my name and they are not trying to listen to me . They lady continues to hang up in my face an not let me talk to a supervisor or nothing!

'Hi this is --- with the legal verification department and we have some legal documents that are being filed against you i the county courthouse this afternoon. Any questions or concerns you may contact the filing department dieectly at 8552907226 ref number ---." Per the state AG, you are not to pay anyone but the original debtor if you owe a debt. They dont mention where when, etc. I was scammed several years ago after my husband passed until I finally spoke to someone and discovered you could pay a debt but they could be sold etc. Beware.

    Scammed before replies to John
Ten years ago, these calls absolutely terrified me. Then one day, three men from three places called about one of the debts I had indeed been scammed into paying already. Called state atty General and received good advice. No one legit makes these types of obscure info calls.

    Hello John
What was your experience with this number?
I got a call saying they are going to serve me at work. They didnt ask for anything no money etc. Alll they wanted was to verify if it was me by social security number
However, they did give inaccurate info. Can you help?
    Thank you

John did help you. He said it's a total scam. I'll give you more help: block and ignore their calls.
Real process servers don't call in advance because then you could simply avoid them.
If they "gave innacurate info", I hope you didn't correct them.

I  recieved a vocemail today from a private number from a man named "Iring Rosenthaul?" stating that they were going to serve me legal papers at my place of business tomorrow regarding a debt.  They said they were calling from ACS Support Services and requested a return phone call by "tonight" leaving the number 855-290-7226. I unfortunately returned the phone call, a woman answered, verified my social security number and would not provide me with any information. After verifying my ss#, she became hostile and told me that they were going to proceed. I called back trying to get more information but she kept hanging up on me. I called again and she said if I didn't stop calling she was going to file harrassmemt charges.  I was just trying to find out what this presumed debt was regarding. She then told me that I'm a debtor and that I don't pay my bills and shouted out my last name making rude comments, then hung up... I'm not exactly  sure what to do

I unfortunately returned the phone call, a woman answered, verified my social security number and would not provide me with any information. I'm not sure what to do, I searched for the company but can't find any valid information.

A phone call, email, text message or postcard from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient proof of debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:

Unless the original communication contained this specific information, every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money.   ["Written" means snailmailed - US Mail ... not emailed or texted]

    Source:
    https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via Green Dot, MoneyGram, Western Union, prepaid gift card or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.

REMEMBER THIS IF YOU FORGET ALL ELSE:
    1.  Legally, THEY must prove you owe the debt (you do not have to prove to them that you do not owe the debt)
    2.  They must prove they have a legal right to collect the debt
    3.  They must send you snailmail with specific info within 5 days of the original contact, if you request that validation notice, or if that information was not provided on initial contact.
You have up to 30 days to reply to that letter.

IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit  the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:
    http://www.consumerfinance.gov/blog/debtcollection/

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:
