- LeahNo Caller ID, they left a message for "someone else" it sounded like a made-up name, and the person speaking sounded foreign, giving vague descriptions of who they were but that sounded legalistic, and wanting to "confirm" some info before "serving". is a scam to get personal info.
- Alex| 3 repliesJust got a call from an "unknown" number saying to call this number if I had any questions or concerns. A young sounding guy with an American accent, calling himself Jason Harper, used my first name and a butchered last name and claimed to be from the "Department of Legal Services" notifying me that "documentation" is being served either to my residence or place of employment. He provided this phone number stating I had a right to speak with the claimant if I had any questions or concerns and provided a file number before ending the call with "you have been warned". Sounds like a scam.
- Caller: Dept. of Legal Services
- KimFirst, they call from an unknown number, making up up some name, mine said " this is Lorin Johnson, from Legal Services, calling to notify "kinda of my name" that I am going to be served legal documents at my place of employment or residence. ....I or my attorney can contact 855-292-6793..well....this is a scam...... do not call the number.
- kathy| 4 repliesi just recieved that call from 855-292-6793
- Caller: legal services
- CWG40 replies to kathy| 2 repliesMost likely an Indian or Pakistani debt collection scam. Ignore and block the calls.
- Elizabeth Starks replies to kathyDid the give you a 6 digit number to go by after they gave you this 1855 number the called me private
- Elizabeth Starks replies to CWG40| 1 replySo it's best to ignore this? They said I would be served tomorrow from 4-7 court documents
- Jennifer| 3 repliesJust called me too. Has anyone called them back with the claim number?
- Caller: Larry Brown
- CWG40 replies to Elizabeth StarksYes, it is best to ignore this. No legitimate process server calls you up in advance and tells you he or she is coming by. This is a total debt collection scam. Generally process servers have to be licensed in the district where they are serving process. In some states only sheriff's deputies or constables can serve civil process papers.
If you were the subject of a pending civil lawsuit, you'd have received a letter from the attorney for the other party. You'd have a paper trail.
Then, if a case was filed, you'd have received a summons delivered to you by someone licensed to serve process in your locality. You would NOT have first heard about any civil law case from some scammery-scummery debt collector who cold calls you and starts demanding money.
You can check this out yourself by simply going down to the local main civil court and checking the defendants civil list. The court clerks are usually glad to help and are familiar with these kinds of scams.
If they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) The same goes for endless telephone harassment
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them. Tell 'em no scammy debt collector is going to push you around. - CWG40 replies to JenniferThey ID themselves as National Recovery Services. Sound like they have US accents, so I'm thinking it's a US debt collection company. They wouldn't give me any more information.

On a scale of A+ to F - CWG40 replies to JenniferDo not call them back. If you call them back they will think you might be vulnerable in some sense to a debt collection scam. At that point they may try to hammer you with even more calls. If you do talk to them, and they start demanding money, you demand a debt validation letter be sent to you by US mail. E-mail no good. They won't do this, so just ignore and block the calls.
