- Lency| 5 repliesStating I owe money,if I didn’t contact them
I will have legal papers sent to my home and job
And my wages will be garnished- Caller: Consumer Financial Legal
- Call type: Debt collector
- MJG replies to Lency| 1 replyThey are LIARS!! If they had a case, you would NOT have a warning call AND garnishment is done by court order - not because a collector says so. You wood have had a hearing. www.consumerfinance,gov & your state attorney would like to know. They have made an illegal threat. (Let your employer know about the scam.)
- Debbie| 2 repliesSaid they could not give me any information, but that it would go to court. If they have a contract and it will go to court, shouldn't they be able to give me information, instead of telling me it was illegal for them to send me that information.
- Caller: 8553157384
- MJG replies to Debbie| 1 replyIt is illegal for THEM to refuse to mail information upon your request...and have 5 days to do so...by MAIL..no other way.

- KCGot the same call! Stating that if I did not pay them I would be served. They couldnt tell me the original creditors name all they told me was the balance I needed to pay to keep the issue out of court. When I spoke of a validation notice they said they said they had sent me one. I never recieved anything from this company. Told them to call me back at a better time, they never did. Must not be that important. I blocked the number.

- Lori replies to MJGJust got the same call AT WORK saying they sent papers to my house and I did not respond.
- OklahomaI got the same call yesterday. They stated originally that they were consumer legal. They called again today and left a message said that they were consumer financial group. Yesterday when I asked them who I owed money to they would not tell me who it was. They had also contacted other family members. They said I would be served at home and at my work. When we called back we asked for an address and they are in Georgia and they only had a PO Box. They said they had services in all 48 states but there is not one in Oklahoma. We did look up consumer financial group and there is one in Massachusetts but they are certified CPAs that help with financial planning. We let them know that this other company had to use their name.

- ChapCall came at 1211 hrs 1/25/2018. The voice recording was cut off at both the beginning and the end, but what was recorded was also transcribed. The gist of it was that [demands for] "payment were sent to your house for this urgent matter" ...[then a garbled section, not transcribed] ... "respond to speak to a representative press one or contact our office back immediately at 855-315-7384. This is America..." [message ends].
- Caller: not recorded
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- NicoleThey called for my husband on my phone and tried to say he had two charges pending on him for legal matters in an attempt to defraud a financial institution and check fraud

- Sarah| 1 replyYeah so they call themselves Consumer Legal. Couple of things about this number. This is not the first time they have contacted me, but it is the second time they have tried to collect on a Payday Loan (I've never taken out a Payday loan, so good luck with that).
The man in the voicemail uses bullying tactics, stating they sent documentation to my address which I never replied to (no such documentation sent), and that because I failed to do so, the file would go to court (go [***] yourselves).
I called back, much like I did last time. The woman INSISTED this was the first time they contacted me (lie) and that the file was just given to them January 10th (bear in mind the supposed date of my Payday loan was in May of 2010. Little late, aren't we fellas?).
So I ask for the documentation to be sent again. She says, what documentation. Um, the [***] you're supposed to send me [***]? To which she replies, "Well what I'll do is have you served at your home so you can have your day in court and let them know you never had a Payday loan."
k. But I haven't yet revealed I didn't take out a Payday loan. So you must be new at this, you pathetic excuse for a human being.
In sum, just ignore the number. They're going to threaten and bully until they get your credit card number.
The only really alarming part is they had the last four digits of my social but in this day and age I guess that's not that weird.- Caller: Consumer Legal

- Cw| 1 replyI received the same intimidating message just now. Called back on blocked number and pressed 0. They answered "Office of Mrs. Rivers how can I help you?"
- Linda Schollcalled my phone and said I had not responded to legal documents that they had sent me and wanted me to call 855-315-7384. This sounds like a scam and I did not call back. Very annoying!! I have not received any documents at my address, do not have a clue who they are!
- Gil| 3 repliesThanks, I got the call too. I asked for them to send me an email with documentation... waited for it with her on the line and surprise surprise, I never got it.
It was scary how much info they had though.- Caller: N/A
- Call type: Debt collector
- BigA replies to Gil| 2 repliesIt is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

If you feel your SSN has been compromised, in addition to putting a fraud alert at the 3 credit bureaus, you may want to notify the IRS. Here is the link, fill out the proper form (probably 14039):
