These POS's will stop at nothing to scam people!  They called my elderly father...who happens to live in another state...and told him that they were trying to serve me papers for a lawsuit.  They wanted him to give them my address and telephone number.  When I called backed the telephone number to give them hell...an american woman answered the phone, told me she was just an "answering service" and if I had a reference number.  When I told her I was aware that this was a scam and the reference number was...she hung up on me!  Complete LOSERS!!!  If you want to serve me papers...SERVE THEM TO ME through the sheriff's office...as required by LAW!!!

Aggree = "These POS's will stop at nothing to scam people!"  They called left a message without a business name or person name. When I called back, I got hung up on 3 times. I called for a fourth time and was sent to "Gregory Wilson" Who advised me I was calling Wilson and Associates. I said I didn't care who he was what was the call about?  All he kept saying was it was in reference to a complaint and had I been served with papers and signed them yet.  I advised I would not sign anything without knowing what it was about, as per my legal counsel, my husband who was supposedly also part of this "complaint". He then verified my name and social and said he would tell me what it was but put me on hold again until I was hung up on.   It's defiantly a fraud!! As mentioned before, if it's legit they will serve you properly through the sheriff office.

This is a common ploy by criminals masquerading as debt collectors who are attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this,  all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.  One of the tricks they use is to call your work place, friends, or relatives repeatedly in an attempt to shame you into paying.  They also use the “process server” ruse who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
