I was reading Facebook and clicked on an article when my computer was "locked" with a "virus warning" from "Microsoft."  It wasn't Microsoft (the images were blurry).  The on-screen message came from xscioe.com and told me to call 855-334-4749 so a tech could "walk me through" the removal of this virus.  It's a serious scam to get you to unlocked your computer and bypass your anti-virus program.  You'll have to restart your computer to get out of it.

I did not get a call from this number, but got a critical "warning notice" on my computer with a CONTINUOUS verbal reading of the fact that if I do not call them, Microsoft will be forced to disable my computer.  When I called, a gentleman answered and introduced himself (I don't remember his name) but he had a foreign accent.  Not saying that foreign techs are not working for Microsoft, or that foreign techs are not capable of repairing anything that may be wrong with my computer, but I suddenly realized that it just may not be Microsoft, and I told them that I need to check something, and will call them back.  In the meantime, the message keeps repeating, and repeating, and repeating.  I don't know how to turn them off, but will keep trying.  Any ideas?

Three months ago I received a message indicating that I had to call 855-334-4749 to have a person from "Microsoft" remove a virus from my computer and like a fool I did.  They took over my computer and infected it after I paid about $100 for the service. When I didn't agree to pay a monthly fee for one year is when they infected my computer and I had to buy a new computer.  Today I got the same message on my new laptop but I wasn't as naïve today.  I rebooted my new computer and was able to delete the message, and so far my computer is working well.

Was reading news article on Yahoo, suddenly a popup covered about 2/3 of screen warning a virus was trying to detect personal information.  This supposedly was coming from Microsoft and instructing not to turn off computer and to call 855-334-4749 to reach Data Manager who could walk me through steps to unlock my computer.  Could not delete the popup by "Xing out".  Did I call?  NO WAY.   First, I jotted down the phone # and address of sender.  Turned off computer, unplugged from wall, waited a few minutes, plugged in computer, started and then ran Kaspersky scan.  Opened several legitimate tabs, all working.  Could not locate ID of sender, but did find the "name" was Indian.  Found several sites identifying phone number to be a scam with multiple complaints on each site.  Went to my burner phone and called the number.  Answered by "Michael" who had foreign accent.  Described problem and he replied "I can fix that"  Asked to type of computer, operating system etc.  Then said "I can see your problem"  ??  Really, the information concerning the computer was the one I trashed over a year ago and is now either in a landfill or scrap metal.  Michael continued that he needed to load a program on my computer to guide me through the cleansing process which I recognized a Team Viewer.  From that point I became the most illiterate computer beginner imaginable.  Was unfamiliar with the 'Start" button, where was it? 1 click or 2, left or right click etc.  When asked what was on my screen, my reply was the popup that led to my call.  When told to enter 'Control' and another key, asked if I was to hold down or just tap and release.  Then if he meant hold down one and release or both at same time.  When asked it the program he wanted me to load had been done, I asked how could I determine if it was.  No matter what he asked me to do, I did it wrong, or ask 'how do I do that'?  Kept saying I couldn't get the original popup off my screen.  Once he put me on hold, get some help in dealing with idiot on the other end.  When he came back on line I told him that my computer had signed off by itself, and should I turn it back on?  Did as he said and then said it signed itself off again.  He hung up after saying to call him back when I had the computer signed on again.  Bottom line:  I had Michael on the phone for over 20 minutes without ever having the computer on and giving him false information.  Amused myself at his expense, and kept somone else from getting suckered in by this scam, at least for a short time.

Same deal- message locking computer-call Microsoft. I restarted and got rid of it. Called 855-334-4749. Guy admitted putting it on my computer and wanted $200 to remove it. I kept him on the line and called him every name I could think of (all bad). He finally hung up on me
Said that what he does----puts on computer and charges $200 to remove it. He and Business are a big piece of crap.
