Claimed to be from Sallie Mae, wanted to talk about my loan application.

When I called, it was very clearly someone imitating a southern accent and claiming to be from Indiana. They asked me my name, then asked for my SSN, to which I replied that that information was not available over the phone. They then asked for a loan number, which I was never given, and it was at that point that I hung up on them.

Same thing happened to me. Southern accent from Indiana. Asked for my SSN and my DOB. Do not give information to these people.

I received a text a few days ago regarding a student loan application.  I did not apply for a student loan so I deleted the text.  Today I get a call with a recorded message saying that I needed to call 855-348-3562 in regards to my recent loan application.  I didn't put in for a loan application, so I was curious to see what information they had.  I called and "Bernadine Carter from Sallie Mae in Indiana" answered the phone and asked for my social security number.  I told her I had no idea who she REALLY was and I  WAS NOT GIVING HER that information.  I said if there really was a loan started on me, she could find it with my name!  I gave her my name and she said she couldn't see anything, but if I really wanted to make sure that no fraud was occurring that I would have to give her my social.  (Which of course I WILL NOT GIVE!!!)  THE ONLY FRAUD HERE APPEARS TO BE from 855-348-3562 "SALLIE MAE"!!!!

Sallie Mae. I had an admissions appointment for an IT certification school which required me to do a pre-loan screening to see what type of loan I could get should I choose to go to school there. Its not really a fraudulent thing. Did you guys perhaps have a relative that would use you as a reference or cosigner?

VALID Sallie Mae contact#.  they did ask for my SS#, advised would not give them complete info.  I gave her last 4 digits and loan app#, she was able to locate info.

Yesterday I got a letter from Sallie Mae about a Student loan application. Today I get a phone call from this number! Strange!

Someone probably put you all as a cosigner on their application. It's not really fraudulent, but I understand the frustration.

I have received phone calls from Sallie Mae but never this number she couldn’t locate anything with my name and loan number and was adamant about getting my social security number and birthdate ALONG WITH my drivers or state ID number HUGE red flag because my name and loan number should have been easy to access my account. She had a southern accent and would not give me her name when I told them they pop up as fraud via google line discontinued.this was 4/11/2021

This number called me.  Recently I applied for a student loan and was rejected due to my advanced age.  They wanted a co-signer.  I told them age is not a legal excuse they keep calling and I have blocked this number.  I am concerned

I just had a call from this number they hung up without saying anything but I did just recently try to apply to Sallie Mae but decided to go another route
