i have no idea about this number ther ar saying xerox state and local solutions they are asking for your tax id number

This number was listed on a mailing that I received requesting a Taxpayer Identification number. This Mailing appeared very legitimate, however, since it did not list the party requesting the information, I chose to do a search. The mailing was a cover letter from XEROX STATE AND LOCAL SOLUTIONS, TAX IDENTITY MANAGEMENT, 10105, Bren Road East, Minnetonka MN, 55343-4591 . The mailing also contained a partial W-9 Request for Taxpayer Identification Number. After a google search, I have concluded this to be a likely scam by people fishing for information. I even looked at the address on google earth and could not see anything that stood out as a government agency etc. My google searches with all pertinent info on the letter returned nothing.

I am the Jim from the previous comment, I have since called the Minnetonka police dept. This is the response, in my words, from the Police in Minnetonka.

They sent a car by to verify if there was a legitimate business at the address, that was requesting the personal information. They are currently filing a report in their system. There appears no legitimate business at the address as listed on the letter, however the Telephone number comes up in their system as some sort of collection agency. He said that their are many collection agencies and similar businesses based in Minnetonka. It is likely a collection agency he said.

I have since discarded the letter and have no intent to respond.

Thank you Jim. Our company received a similar letter on November 6th, 2014  but the name was from Cenpatico Behavior Health LLC with the same address. I looked up this address and the building is for sale and has been on the market since March 2014. I will keep this letter on file just in case.

I too received a letter stating they needed a W9 form by the date listed of 3/13/15 or backup withholding would begin. I called the number and the lady on the other end was very shady! The number on the letter I received was 1-855-736-9602.

This company is very shady.  The only reason they would legally need your SS# (which is what a W9 is asking for) is if you are an independent contractor or if for some reason they plan on sending you a 1099 form.  Banks use it to determine if they need to withhold money on interest bearing accounts and some other businesses use if if they are paying you money.  There is absolutely no reason for an unknown entity to ask for it.
Now. stay tuned, as i have some information on this bunch of criminals, but it is takling a little bit to wade through all the bogus corporations they have set up.

I found out that this company had a contract with the State of Texas and had changed their name from CS to Xerox.
I then found the BBB page that indicates that they are a collection agency located in Texas with an A+ rating and no complaints:  http://www.bbb.org/central-texas/business-rev ... tonio-tx-31515/
A little more sleuthing and I found out that Minnesota had brought action against this company for illegal collection activities (what a surprise!)

and that they also use the names LDC Collection systems and Transportation solutions.  The document was signed by the head criminal Ken Bianchi.
So I couldn’t find anything on Transportation solutions as a debt collector, but I did find a lot of stuff on LDC.

So the best I can tell you is that they are still subject to the FDCPA:
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
