This is actually a two-level scam. First you receive a call from "Capital Courier" (888-451-5029) advising that you are being charged with a Class B felony under Penal Code blah blah blah, Title yadda yadda, Section whatever..It all sounds pretty damn serious & scary, then they toss in some personal info in order to sound legit. As soon as you start to ask questions, they then direct you to contact "Ford & Geller", the "law firm handling your case", at 855-396-3359. They are fraudulently using the name & address of a legitimate law firm (Geller Law Group, 4000 Legato Road, Suite 1100, Fairfax VA 22033), but claim to be in the "criminal division" in Atlanta. FYI the real Keller Law Group has one office & has no criminal division, as they handle trademark, patent, & IP issues. Apparently the y only have one "attorney" at Ford & Geller, a Regina Richardson -- She's a black woman who tries to talk louder & faster than you in order to try to convince you that she's really real LMFAO. It's all a bunch of sophisticated BS, so don't fall for anything, don't pay anything -- Either hang up on them, play along, or report them to your local authorities.

I got a call from a 760-849-6694 number out of Baker, California telling me all of the same info as the previous post. When I tried to get more information about what it was about, the lady on the phone who said her name was Akila, told me I'd have to contact Ford&Geller the law firm handling my case and that she was just a process server.  She said that she was with Capital Couriers.  I am glad that I did a reverse phone search because it sounded fishy to me.

My sister received a call from Capital Courrier. When I called the number back, the lady stated that the person may have gotten my sister’s name and number from an online search and they mistakenly called her. I was then instructed to call Ford and Geller law firm to discuss my case. The lady who pi he’s up said she was with the State Attorney Generaloffice. She was extremely rude and kept repeating that I took an online loan and they verified through my bank that the check issued in 2012 bounced. She kept instructing me to get a lawyer since the firm will be issuing a warrant for me ‘tomorrow’ that can lead to my detention in jail for 45 days. I kept asking what are the solutions. She kept advising me to get a lawyer. Why would you come after me for a bounced check from 5 years ago for $400 and threaten jail at this point? FRAUDULENT.

No, they didn't call your sister by "accident".  They called on purpose as it is part of the scam.  No scummy debt collector can "issue" a warrant, as that is criminal and must be handled by real law enforcement which includes police, the District Attorney, and a judge, certainly not a private "law firm".  The State AG does not collect debts.

You should be reporting them to the real State AG as well as this federal agency:

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

My husband received a call from "Capital Courier" stating that an attorney with Ford & Geller was trying to reach me.  The number they told him I needed to call was 844-372-9234.  I called and sat on hold for 10 minutes and then someone picked up, I gave them the fake case number they provided to my husband and they said they needed to transfer me.  Someone that called herself Sandra Kerr picked up.  I asked her for the name of her company and the address and phone number.  She said I should have asked for that information from the company that transferred me (Ummm, ok).  I asked her then who is she and who does she work for?  She stated her name and said the State of Colorado District 2.  I asked what department or division does she work in?  She said district 2.  I said, well you should have a department, what does district to handle or oversee, I gave the example of criminal and she said, "yeah, criminal".  She then proceeded to rattle off what I assume was supposed to be my social and claimed that I wrote a bad check to a federal bank for a loan.  Like someone posted earlier, she shouts and talks fast.  I asked her when can I see a copy of this complaint because the bank she claimed I wrote the check from wasn't my bank in 2013 as she claimed.  She told me my attorney can request a copy.  I said I don't have an attorney, so why can't I have a copy to retain an attorney.  She just kept yelling that my attorney can request it.  I asked well how can he request a copy since she refuses to supply any information.  She then says I'm not being cooperative and tells me she is issuing a warrant for my arrest.  She then yells to someone to get the warrant division on the line.  I waited 10 minutes and called back and asked to speak to her.  I asked if I could confirm her information because the State of CO doesn't have a district 2 Criminal Investigation unit and said that her phone number was not a valid state agency number.  She asked me to hold and then hung up.  I called back and I was told Sandra went home for the day.  I asked the girl could they please just remove me from their scam list?  She got upset and said that this isn't a scam.  I told her the state has never heard of Sandra or her made up district.  She told me that it didn't matter what they told me and that someone will be there to arrest me tomorrow and if I wasn't worried why am I calling her law firm?  I said is it a law firm, or are y'all the state?  She hung up.  So yeah, scam.

This is a two level scam. Capital Courier called my daughter and told her there were two felony charges against me and gave her a fake case number. The first number I called was 844-747-7455 and a woman picked up, I gave her the fake case number, and then the woman stated the affidavit was closed and she couldn't see anything. I was then instructed to call the law office at 844-372-9234. Upon calling, I was put on hold for five minutes, then Beverly Sinclair picked up. She stated that I had written a bad check in 2012 that didn't clear and a warrant would be going out for my arrest- Beverly Sinclair kept telling me I was being rude, didn't listen and kept talking and talking. She stated I could qualify for something (I forgot the name) to stop the law firm from issuing the warrant, if I paid $1,485.00 by 9 AM Wednesday Morning. If I could not pay the entire amount then the warrant will be issued and she will be sending someone to come tomorrow (Wednesday). I am going to report them to the State AG office.
