Robocall - left automated message for prervious owner of cell number referencing case research.

Robocaller. I sent the call straight to voicemail. Here is the message that was left:
"Hello my name is Michael Pendergrass and this important message intended for [MY NAME + AN 8-DIGIT NUMBER]. I received an order to complete an audit on behalf of our client. It is your legal right to be made aware before any proceedings speak [MY NAME]. We will make one final attempt to reach you at your home or your place of employment. Just go to an alternate location or provide a verbal statement. Press one now or call 855-411-6933. Again 855-411-6933 regarding this matter."

My sister in law got this message looking for my husband. I called it back says not available wants you to leave all your information. Yeah no

855-411-6933 i called the number back a woman answered. I then asked what type of collections is this, she stated they are mediation company. It is a scam she laughed as i advised her i have experience in what shes doing and she continued to laugh and hung up. Block their number ! It is a scam

Scammer. They tried to get me to pay on a debt I paid off 6yrs ago. Told me they would be suspending my license today if i didn't make a payment. Called original lender and verified i did actually pay it off. They still threatened to suspend my license. Told me to get a lawyer and hung up on me.

Would a legitimate debt collector hang up on you??  REPPORT at www.consumerfinance.gov & your state attorney general's office. They have made an ILLEGAL threat - that they have no power to do.

This is a scam. Calling to make me aware that they are going to audit me if I do not return their call. Stupid. As a law major, I can tell you that this is not how this would be handled. I also know my debts and that they are always paid on time.

I recieved the same call that you all have reported. I tried to call back and a woman answered and wouldn't say the name of the company. I blocked their number. Thank everyone for their helpful feedback.

I just received this voicemail and called the lady back. Very rude. Is this for real should I be worried they are going to garnish my wages or no?

Caroline, no.  It is just a scum collection agency looking to harass.  Just block the number or let it go to Voicemail.  They use skip tracing on the web.  Called for a person that I used to work with, and had my moms name as a reference.  Do not worry, they cannot do anything.  Just block

If someone that you don't recognize calls you attempting to collect a debt, contact the original creditor and verify the status and placement of the account BEFORE contacing the calling party.   You have multiple rights available to you under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act.   You have the right to dispute the debt and make the agency provide you with proof that the deb tis owed, the amount of the debt, the original creditor name and proof that they are authorized to collect.  You also have the right to VERIFICATION OF DEBT.  This can include a copy of an original contact, an invoice, or a last bill.   You have the right not to be harrassed or threatened.  The FDCPA also stated that if you are contacted by a debt collector (some of these places like to claim that they are a mediatior or a litigatior and not a debt collector, but if they are wanting to get money from you regarding a debt, they are a debt collector) they are required to send you what is referred to as the VALIDATION NOTICE within 5 days of the initial contact.   If they refuse, if they tell you they already did, if they try to say they don't have to......they are attempting to mislead you.   And if you are contacted by an agency that relys on these tactics, contact your State Attorney Generals office.   You can file a formal complaint on line.  Google (your state) attorney general consumer omplaint.   There will be a link to file online.
