Since someone posted their website with an address on the first page: https://www.spenceredwardsandassociates.com/    and since threats and calling relatives and friends repeatedly is against the law, you should send them a debt validation letter and your family should send them a "not me" letter as described below:

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

You will need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation (by law they have to go back to the original creditor to prove you owe the debt), or "not me" letter (this will be the best money that you have ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/
    http://www.consumeradvocates.org/find-an-atto ... tates_value=All

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC:  https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Received a call from Edwards law associates in Ontario California regarding a “ supposed “ 13 year old medical debt from a facility I never visited. Threatening to sue and place a lean on my house and somehow had my personal information. Back records from the facility of the supposed debt have no record of me in their system. Contacted an attorney , and believe it is likely due to identity theft. There is also a statue of limitations for old debt, usually 4-6 years , varies by state. SCAM!

My wife received a "restricted" call on her cell phone and Sara the caller left a message stating she was trying to locate her son (my stepson) and left a number 855 415 4879. My wife called back later and Sara not being available talked to another party who gave her a "Case #" and told her they needed to locate her son to advise him   he was being sued for an unpaid C.C. debt from 2003. My wife gave them no information and ended the call.  We later learned Sara also called my wife's ex-husband who lives 400 miles away. After informing me of the initial call and followup conversation, I turned on caller I.D. block on my phone and called them again and spoke with Brent or Brett who gave the original amount of the alleged debt, the current amount including  interest, fees and etc. as well as the name of the original creditor, a bank which is no longer in business.  When ask, he stated he was with the Edwards & Assoc. law firm located in "southern California" and suit would be filed in Dallas court next week. I told Brent or Brett the gentleman he was trying to locate is mentally challenged, has no gainful income other than disability and has no credit so It was doubtful anyone would have ever given him a C.C. with a $2000.00 or greater limit and the small government benefit he receives is exempt from attachment for debt (all of which is true) so if he wanted to sue, go ahead. Our call ended. The concerning part of this is that they had my wife's cell phone number as well as her ex-husbands and knew the person they were trying to locate was their son. That is connecting a lot of dots.

these guys have been taking 167 out of my check first friday every month. For a 3000 debt owed. Threat of garnishment. 50%of my wages. I got a new card in june and they called me saying I still owed just under 1000 dollars.  6 more payments.  But it not the same lawyer. I'm always suspicious. Check check and double check.

So you paid them without making them follow the law?  You are happy with them taking $2000 that you probably didn't owe and even if you did they collected it illegally?  50% of your wages as garnishment?  Nope, sorry the law says no more then 25% of your disposable wages. Plus they have to take you to court and win their case.
    Quote:
Garnish your wages without actually suing you, going to court, or even winning a case and obtaining a judgement followed by a judge’s consent to the garnishment.  They also claim that your wages will be garnished in amounts far above all legal limits which are described by the Dept. of Labor here:  https://www.dol.gov/whd/regs/compliance/whdfs30.pdf

However if you know where they are located you can get all of the money back and more by suing them.

The BBB has them as out of business and I cannot find a state registration for them anywhere.  The office listed on the BBB site is a virtual office.  Looks like you were scammed out of money.
