- Alfalfa replies to nikki| 3 repliesThis is a criminal extortion ring operating out of India. ABC News released an investigative report on it in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:

http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2012/08/bgm.shtm - CMP| 3 repliesSays they are a debt collector with a complaint filed against me and my SSN in the county where I live. Total scam. Already filed one complaint with FTC, will do another. Get phone calls at work from Bill Williams. Also heard from a friend they called my former place of employment as well.

- AW replies to CMP| 2 repliesBeen getting the same calls for 2 weeks now. They say they are going to have a summons issued and that I'll have to appear in court. I only have a small window of time to setlle it. They claim it's a debt against my SSN and they will file a formal complaint with the county I live in soon. There are so many scams out there, and I want to avoid legal issues, so I just want to know if it's legit or not. I haven't returned any of their calls, and am considering having my phone number changed and unlisted. But I just want to be sure this is a scam and not legit. But it seems that answering the phone would only encourage them to continue calling. Guy who left a message spoke english well unlike most of these people from India running scams you hear about. Advice? Is this legit, or are they running a scam?
- AW replies to AW| 1 replyWorth noting, I forgot to mention, this last call this afternoon they gave me a reference number beginning with BGM. After some research, I discovered this is for a company called Broadway Global Master Inc. Apparently they are being investigated for criminal fraud, but again, I just want to be sure that this is a scm.
- AW replies to AWNevermind, it was BMG not BGM. Guess I had the wrong company. I'm very concerned if anyone can help advise me on what I should do.
- CuriousI got a voice mail from a Allison Shaw saying I had to call 855-436-9121 & gave me a case number also. Stated I had a legal matter against me & I would be summoned to court if I did not respond. I think this is also a scam.
- UNKNOWN replies to Alfalfa| 2 repliesDear sir, you are sadly mistaken. The distortion ring you speak of is a bunch of foreigners threatening people. Telling them they will be arrested and the sheriffs are coming with dogs and shot guns....... this company is aware of that company and yes, multiple complaints have been made to the feds in reference to them.They are unable to be located. This company was very helpful in helping me resolve my matter when the client wouldnt.
- AW| 7 repliesI just wanted to update you all. Spoke with this company this morning and they are a legit company. They answered all my questions and agreed to send me verification of debt, proof, and gave me an extension for the lady I dealt with. I called it back to make sure, and it was in fact her. She was very kind and helpful. They are the last stop before court, as they did have a server trying to locate me to serve me with intent to summon. I know they did, because he was blowing up my phone too. Anyway, I suggest calling them and talking with them, because they are the real deal. Oh, and I did find out they are out of NY.

- REAL DUMB replies to UNKNOWNIt makes you sound more ignorant by responding to complaints. You are trying to sound legit...but come off as uneducated bill collectors. STOP THE LIES....STOP THE LIES!!!!! Your company will be short lived.!!!
- You are so wrong! replies to AW| 3 repliesI got the same calls, and I responded as well. They are in fact a collection agency. However, there is never any court date, never will be and that is that. They are liars who will threaten you with "summons" and court costs and ask you for your debit/credit/ pre-paid card to pay a old payday loan. They will not/can not sue you. They are just a little better than the Indians. Maybe these people learned the scam or as they call it the "shake down" from the movies....Time to get a real job. No one pay these people!!!! - Alfalfa replies to UNKNOWNYou are the one who is sadly mistaken. Refusing (among other things), to give a consumer a legitimate mailing address in which to dispute the phony debts you are attempting to collect is a red flag and indicative of a collection scam as evidenced by the FTC:
Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt076.shtm - AW replies to You are so wrong!| 2 repliesYour choice. I know my debt is legit and wanted to take care of it. Better safe than sorry, as they are a legit agency as you said. I know how it felt to be concerned about this and I feel better KNOWING they can't do anything because I dealt with it, rather than just assuming. I just wanted to share my experience for anyone else who might be concerned too.
- CuriousReceived a message on my cell phone from a lady claiming to be Allison Shaw who spoke very fluent English, unlike a lot of them. She said she was going to have a summons issued and that I'll have to appear in court. I only have a small window of time to settle it. They claim it's a debt against my SSN and they will file a formal complaint with the county I live in soon. Said this was my 2nd contact & they wished me luck. I'm not calling these people back because they have been blowing up my cell phone as well. Everytime they call they tell me the same thing & nothing has happened yet. This is a scam & I will continue to ignore the calls. Somebody needs to get behind this phone number & STOP these people from harrassing other people.

- Kyle replies to AWMy, My, My....I'll bet that since he now knows that you can be scared or suckered into paying, He will be back in a couple of months threatening a prison term for not paying for that swam land in Mississippi that you bought.
Orrrr, wait a minute...could it be that you are a scam booster, a Shill, and just wanted to make it sound legitimate? Wow, I'm up on my toes today!!!! - ken replies to nikki| 1 replyThere ya go!! Tell em to put it in writing, put in an envelope, lick it, then put it in the mail box. Simple as that. Tell them that you refuse to discuss any alleged debt or any other legal issues without full written verifiable validation. Then, if it arrives at your house, (which it won't) you can read, research, and evaluate it. Then you can make the most logical and informed decision, to tell them to go to hell.... They are required by law to furnish their own contact information, i.e. Name, name of company, Telephone number, mailing/physical address, and upon your request they must provide all validating information, including the original owner of the debt and much much more if you request it. Including dates of payments made, the date of the last and final payment and/or activity on the account as well as proof of any signed contract that must exist with the original owner of the debt. Additonally demand verifiable proof that they have the legal right to claim and collect on the alleged debt. . Then for kicks and grins, demand they give your their ss# and their credit card account numbers.
- kyle replies to kenStop it!!! you're scaring me!!!...
