Got a call today they left a message saying they are from ABI?   Threaten that they have papers to serve me and they have approval to do wage garnishment which I don't think they can do without going to court but I'm no expert and that I have to call back today

How can I verify whether or not a debt collector is legitimate?
Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:

The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.

The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.

The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.

The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.

Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.

Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.

Stop speaking with the caller.If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.

Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).

I got 2 calls back to back just now also, Ms. Hill is at it again. I haven't heard from her in a few weeks. You know it has to be a robo-call when they call you again while leaving the first voicemail. Same voicemessage left for me too, I've gotten several of these voice mails, I'm to the point I find it hilarious. First of all, they don't say who they are calling for, and then they say they have a file, but don't give the file number to even call back about. SCAMMERS!

got back to back calls from ms. hill claiming that they have received permission to begin wage garnishment and that i needed to call 844-804-0398 immediately to clear it up.  i called and spoke to a roger who claims that i was listed as emergency contact three times on a credit card for someone i don't even know.

Scam for sure.....Christopher grant from priority legal services says in a recording that he has a summons for me to please be ready with two forms of identification and he will be coming to either my house or place of employment in the next 24 hours and to make myself available if not I will miss important court date and warrant for arrest could be issued to speak to the party who's filed against me to contact 844 838 7351 this was a message recording that played twice. Lol. The even crazier thing is I'm 15 with could I have done not attend my PSAT lmbo! I also don't have a place of employment lmbo

Scam Caller. I got a Christopher Grant that apparently started the recorded message BEFORE it connected to my VM, but it played again so I was able to get the info. Priority Legal Services and he's planning to serve me in the next 24-48 hours at my home or at my work. I should be available blah blah blah. Good luck idiots. I feel bad for the old people who get scared and fall for this. The call back number was 844-838-7351. Blocked.

These a holes call from time to time, total bs, just block the number when it comes across your id screen, i have at least 7 numbers blocked, and as long as they keep calling i will keep blocking.

Just got the call from Christopher Grant at Priority Legal Hearing Services from the number 1-855-465-6808 with the same message as above. Good to know that it's fake because that would be kinda scary if it were real.

Received an automated call from this number, threatening a summons to my home or office in the next few days.  I used the option to hold for a representative.  Spoke to Mr. Stone who said the company name is ABI and he stated that they are a litigation firm.  When I asked what this was about because I have NO past due debt, he said it was for a credit card from 2002.  He asked me if I had ever filed BK, which I told him yes, back in 2005, and that the debt would have been discharged under it.  He said oh so you did have the card, I told him I did not.  He hung up on me.  I called back and asked the name and address of his company, and he said "oh you're going to go this route?"  I said yes, I certainly am, what you are doing is illegal, and I am going to report it to the FTC, he said " well do what you want to do since you want to threaten me."  Funny, the call began with HIM threatening ME!

Got the same call today - this is crazy.  Did y'all just ignore?

Called saying I had a credit card I owed a 1,000 on and they want $4,500 to say it off and they were coming to my husbands work if they can't find me because they have been trying to find me.
Funny thing is, I have been right here!

Josh Walker with the legal Dept called from855-465-6804.Stated to leave my case number and phone number slowly so can return my call. Funny I have zero debt. Bills paid and nothing in my consumer report to have this kind of call.   I am the wrong person to mess with on this type of stuff. I work  with defaults and garnishment and offsets.I'm sure this is false name and no company name mentioned. Legal Dept ?? Yeah sure there's a right and a wrong way collecting debts. And about to find out how to shut this place down

I had this same Mr Stone calling me ! I called and threatened to sue if didn't remove my name

They call my company and we are a process serving company that knows the law. Any call like this regardless is going to be a SCAM.

It is a scam. I work for a process serving company and you need to be properly served papers before anyone can garnish your wages. This is scam. The proper way to do this is to hire a company to serve your papers. You don't call and tell someone you are going to serve them and garnish their wages. A server will just show up at your work or home with official court documents that you can verify with your local courthouse if you choose.

Got a call I believe from somebody named Christopher threatening to send a summons to my house/place of employment.
