If you have a past due payment on a Credit Card, you are receiving this number. Some credit cards are bank issued.

Well I received a message from Patty. She wanted my full name and social. When i asked here for info about where and/or who she was calling for she said a retail store. I told her i did not have retail cards and she INSISTED that she still needed to verify who i was. I INSISTED that she did not and hung up. She also stated she was from Ohio.

Received a voicemail from someone claiming to be community bank. I don't have any affiliation with this bank so I contacted the bank directly (a completely different number). The bank representative reported that it was a scam and that they had already received several reports, and not to give them any info over the phone.

They say I need an attorney and I had better call back because this is a recorded attempt to contact me. They have "evidence" against me. Except I don't bank there and own NO credit cards. H&R Block says real legal notices come via certified mail.

And they will continue to call until you give them an incentive to stop. A certified, return receipt "not me" letter for starters.  Then if they continue to call, a TCPA lawsuit which should get you at least $500 per call. Or, you can ignore this advice and put up with the harassment.  Your choice.

    COMENITY BANK

Seems to be a frequent flyer in these pages with a very bad reputation.  Be advised that they are not subject to the FDCPA since they are the creditor.  They may however be subject to state laws.
Web site with contact information:  http://www.comenity.net/comenity/ContactUs/
    Now for the interesting part.
BBB page with 1,525 complaints, and 274 negative reviews and they still get an B+ rating (the rating was reduced to an B+ from an A rating and the BBB got rid of 130 complaints and 2 negative reviews so that they wouldn’t have to drop them any further).  What the heck is that all about?  http://www.bbb.org/centralohio/business-revie ... olumbus-oh-6558
They must be paying big bucks to the BBB for that.
Bizapedia has them as a Florida Fictitious name but they are located in Ohio:  http://www.bizapedia.com/fl/COMENITY-BANK.html
    Name verified at Sunbiz.org

They are not subject to the FDCPA since they are the creditor.  However, they may be subject to state laws.  Courtesy of Resident47:
“Several enlightened states restrict the behavior of original creditor collections in ways similar to the FDCPA, usually granting private right of action, meaning the bank's in-house thugs can be sued by consumers. Those states include California, Florida, Pennsylvania, Utah, and Wisconsin.”

Send them a cease and desist letter by certified, return receipt US mail.  Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

People tried calling me yesterday, I orginally answered. They were asking for me with my maiden last name and couldn't pronounce it- didn't confirm with them, I just asked them "what is this regarding" and they refused to tell me it until I told them my name. I just hung up on them. Now they are calling me again today at 8:49am and left a message for me to call them back saying they are from community bank.

    1. I don't bank with them
    2. If it is a debt collector, I have no debt to collect.
    3. Damn fools.

I received a call from this # yesterday AM.  I didn't answer.  They left a voice msg.  When I looked at the caller ID, it showed the call coming from MY WIFE (but instead of her cell #, it said 'Private Number'). The msg was from 'Darius', from Comenity Bank, asking for some female I don't know.  He left a callback #: 1-85-5497-8174, Ext 1226158.  I called VS's Fraud Line and spoke to someone about the whole thing.  She said she would turn it over to their investigators.

Received four or five calls from this number. Did not answer because I didn't know who this was. The voicemail says they need me or my attorney to call. This is a joke. Holiday Scammers are not going to scam me!

received a call - didn't answer - voicemail was left.  Message said they were calling from Community Bank and for me to call back tomorrow only between the hours of noon and 4 eastern time.  Who does that?  Not even a legit collection agency gives you a specific time frame of operating hours. I did not call the number back sounds 100% scam.

You seem confused. This is a scam. Many of the people getting calls do not have "accounts."  And why would you ask poor old 'John fell' about this in any case?  He can't help you.
