Is this a scam number

I'm sharing this from FB posted by Debbie Ramsey on several local community pages/groups.

"Hello everyone,
Be aware Duke Energy scam today!

We received a call on our house phone telling us that our bill was overdue and that Duke energy truck was on the way to to disconnect our power within the next hour.

The person on the phone was very good! He asked me if I had received disconnect notices that two had been sent, he gave me my address, and said that if we did not pay the bill today that are power would be disconnected.

Because we pay our bill automatically I was already suspicious, I asked him how much I owed and he said he could not give me that amount, that I needed to call the billing department to find out what the total was and how to pay. He gave me a toll free number 855 504-4088 he told me to call that number to find out what I owed and reminded me that if I didn't pay it today that within the hour that my electricity would be disconnected.

I then checked my electric bill online and found the total that I owe right now and when it was due. That total was around $200. Then I called the toll-free number.

The person who answered, answered as though they were Duke Energy. He asked for my account number I told him I didn't know it he then asked me for my phone number which I gave him since I figured they had it already and had called me already. He then told me that my total bill was $600. And that if I didn't pay that amount that the Duke Energy truck would be at my house within 30 minutes to disconnect.

Evidently, had I continued with the call they ask you to get a prepaid card and give them the number because the last thing he asked me before I hung up was if I was able to go and pay the bill right now.

I have also read that they are also asking some people to meet them to pay.. Yikes! I am especially worried about our elderly population.. 😔

I'm posting this because they were so good at the representation and I'm concerned that maybe others might get caught in this trap and they're working the Franklinton area today."

yes.  this is definitely a scam.
