I found my pc locked up this morning with a window alerting me my computer is infected and needs immediate action and to call 1-855-558-8444. This is a scam. A tech will show where your pc is vulnerable, spend some time scaring you and then offer a $299 charge to clean it all up. I ran a full Mcafee scan and everything was OK. Don't be fooled. The tech sounded very convincing.

    Glad you were not scammed.

    Info for lurkers:

DO NOT CALL THAT PHONE NUMBER!

If you see the message ONLY with your browser,
-- google "browser hijack", and try some of the solutions seen there.

If you see the message pretty much all the time,
-- download the anti-malware program from malwarebytes.com (or another legitimate site)
    -- run it
--  Make sure you check the boxes that say "PUPs" (Potentially Unwanted Programs)

If none of that works, you may have to visit your local computer repair shop, or restore your system from a backup created before you saw the "virus warning".

DO NOT CALL THAT PHONE NUMBER!

This is click4service number. put a trojan message and froze my computer. Charged a $1 99.99 to clean up my computer.
The only difference being the trojan was removed and my computer unlocked.  Said they were a Microsoft technician,
I called and cancelled and and told the to return my momey on my credit card. Ran the microsoft malware finder and no problems. Still hasn't refunded my money.

May 8, 2015 I come home from work and my teenage son tells me he had to pay $199.99 to have his computer disinfected.  I told him that shouldn't have happened because we have Windows Defender. Smelling a scam, I asked him to tell me everything from the beginning.  OK, so he was shopping for a bike online, allegedly clicked an Amazon link, but instead he got a blue screen and a popup message declaring his computer was infected and to immediately call (855) 558-8444 for Microsoft support. Being too naive to suspect a browser hijack, he called the number, believing he was calling Microsoft.  The tech support guy tells my son it'll cost $199.99 to diagnose and fix the computer, and of course tech support needs remote access to do it.  My wife, being as naive as my son, consented and charged it on her credit card.  Then my son granted the "tech" remote access.  Four different "techs" kept my son on the phone over the course of three hours, telling him his computer had been invaded by foreign hackers. They also tried upselling my wife to $900 multi-computer service; thankfully she declined.  So after this horror story I got on my son's computer and found that these scam artists had installed AVG Free!  Windows Defender was disabled.  I looked at his browser history and found the link that served up the bogus message that started this whole fiasco.  I was furious. I uninstalled AVG, reenabled Windows Defender and ran a full scan; it came back clean (fingers crossed).  Now working with credit card company to reverse the charges, and complaining to the FTC about these bottom feeders.  Oh by the way the company shows up in the credit card statement as CELOX, 1055 WESTLAKES DRIVE in BERWYN, PA, 19312; Phone: (888) 990-9960.

Correction: it was May 6, 2015.  And my son also received an email from Tekdex (info@ubertechsupport.com), declaring that CELOX had enrolled him in Tekdex support.

    Ticked off in Wisconsin
Ubertech hijacked my Safari on my mac and gave me a 647 number to call. I had no idea that it was so easy to hijack my browser. I am currently trying to decline the charges on my credit card. I find it interesting how the price of the one time fix has risen to $299 from $199 back in March. They got $698 from me and downloaded off of the internet all free antivirus programs. I was told that I had gotten the Koobface worm from a Java update or Adobe update, both of which I had updated within the past 2 weeks. The "fix" was to download MacKeeper. The work was done on the 13 of May 2015. By the 14th (today) Mackeeper was soliciting me to "buy" their protection package for $24.95 per month for 24 months.

I'm wondering if Ubertech Support is somehow linked up with MacKeeper.

I also received a call today from a company in NC confirming my name, addy and email and that $750 was charged to my card for UberTech's services. I told the caller that $750 was not charged.

The UberTech staff assured me that nothing was stolen off of my mac and that there was no need to change my passwords, however I spent hours today doing just that. My CC is closed and a new card is on it's way.

Hopefully my CC company will accept my complaint and I won't be out $698.

How do I complain to the FTC about "ubertech"?

Scams like this make the internet a scary place. I've been on the 'net for almost 2 decades and this is the first time I had this problem.

    Have been scammed
Thought I was calling Linksys, as their number came up when I installed a Linksys signal extender earlier this month. When my internet froze with a Linksys window asking for a non-existent username and password, I called it, and they convinced me that I had malware infecting all my computers and other wireless devices.  While on the phone with them in the first five minutes they suggested I try unplugging the modem for 20 seconds and plugged it back in, and that fixed the problem. Not till I got an invoice did I find out I was not speaking with Linksys, but with Click4fix, Texdex and Ubertech, all the same people.
They said the fee was $199 for 3 years of support, which changed to $399 (because I have more than 5 devices) for a "1 time fix."  They only "worked" on one device. I hired Avast! software and one of their technicians a few hours later, and he checked and found malware had been installed in MacKeeper on my home computer, and got rid of it. I am disputing the charge now, only 9 hours later. They are dissembling. They supposedly have a "45-day money back guarantee" but I am not going to hold my breath. Still waiting for their call back..... to issue me a refund.
