I got a phone call from a Robert Ross telling me that I owed cash advance some money. When he called it came up private on my phone. So, I felt that if it was someone important that they would leave a message. Sure enough he did. He told me my ss number, my address (where I used to live), my work, my bank and my old phone number. I was told that I owed $974.84. I question him asking, when from and if I could send in a money order or something because at the moment I can not work bc of being a high risk pregnancy. He told me that he would take the fees out and I will only owe $503.33, and if I needed to I could pay half now and half next month. I told him that I would see if my family could help with me. As he threated that my licenses would be taken away within 48 hours and there was going to be a police offfice at my door Monday btw 12 and 5pm. At that time I could not pay it. And, I was told by family not to give out credit card info over the phone. Then on Monday and Tuesday I got a phone call from a guy named Larry ?, he sounded just like this Robert guy. He told me that he tried to serve me papers and I was not home. At this time he also left me a message that there is an awarrent for my arrest if I do not contact him by Friday. WOW... Scarey if you ask me.. Not sure what to believe. But it needs to stop. I called cash advance and I do owe money but they also know my situation and they are working with me... So what do I do to stop these harassing calls?

You were called by a scammer - one thing you should NEVER do is pay someone just because they say you owe them and they can rattle off your personal information.  It's very easy for people to hack into databases and also just to buy personal information online.  Per the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) you should never pay any caller who refuses/can't/won't mail a debt validation letter to you.  Also, your license can't be taken away for failure to pay back a loan.  Glad that you called the actual place you do owe, and they obviously told you this guy is a scammer.  BTW, if you were going to be served a court summons, the court process server would just show up - he doesn't call you to let you know he's on his way!

Report your caller to the FTC, FBI, Dept of Justice and your state's Attorney General.  When "Robert Ross" aka "Larry" calls you back, do let him know you've reported his sorry butt, and that you're recording all calls he makes to you.  Most scammers do not want to be recorded and will promptly hang up.  Other than that, the only thing you can do is block the number(s) he calls from or just ignore the calls.
