I got a call from them yesterday. However, the initial phone number that they called from was a private number. It was an immediate red flag. They gave me the 855 number and I called it. Upon talking to them, they gave me a case number that started with 2024. Told me that they are after the Americredit funds I supposedly owed them and that they put it back on the Credit report. I told them is that so? Im not seeing anything about Americredit or it being on the credit report in my current copy. so the person got belligerent and before I let him continue, I hung up. Definitely 100% scam

Received an initial phone call from a "no caller ID" number asking when they could come serve me 'papers' for the civil lawsuit they have filed against me.  I said I had no idea what she was talking about and she told me she didn't have any other info and gave me this 855 number.  I called it with the case number she gave me - starting with 2024- and they stated it was a recorded line.  She wanted to know when I could sign the papers.  it was for an Americredit debt.  I told her I wasn't signing anything.  She said that is fine, they will proceed with the judgement against me and told me good luck in court and hung up.  I called back wanting to know what the details were of the debt.  It was a debt I had from over 25 years ago!  I told her she couldn't sue and she said she could and that I was wasting her time...she said see you in court and hung up.  Both phone calls had bad static and bad connections during the call. Probably from overseas!  This has to be a scam.  Although all the information she provided about the debt was 100% correct.  They just bought really old debt and using lawsuits to scare you into paying them something.  It scared me at first but then I thought the better of it!

Received a call from a number that showed 0000000000 on my caller id. Didn't answer. Message was left. She said her name was Crystal from the Washington County SDP. She was calling about my vehicle. There was a pending lien and they needed my signature on some legal documents. I thought it was weird because I've had my a car for three years, why now do the have papers for me to sign. I googled the phone number she gave me and I found this website. So my suspicions were obviously correct. The case number she gave me also started with 2024.

Got exactly the same message today. I’m looking them up before I even called them back. I had a feeling that they were scammers.

The fake process server/location specialist scam usually contains:

They mention that they have received a Fax document or that some sort of complaint has “come across my desk” and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency.  They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  They threaten to serve you at home or at work.  They tell you that if they serve you at work they need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work.  They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID.  None of which is true.  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.  They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”.  Court documents are time sensitive and have to be served within a certain amount of time.  Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there is actually a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter, email, or text (postmarked in the case of a letter) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. Unless they have communicated it to you verbally at the beginning of your conversation. It also must contain the “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this communication must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that communication you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

I got one and kept asking the caller for more details.
They claimed to be a lawyer, and I left them frustrated as I initially was at first.
Of course, by the end of the 20-30 minute call, I gave them nothing more than a run around.

The caller had information about me such as address and a very old auto loan from over 20 years ago. He even said the last updates were close to seven years ago.
The initial call/voicemail from 800-573-4500 said call this issuing firm at 202-456-2006 with extension 315. I couldn't understand the law firm he said he represents...
