855-603-5808.  I received a voicemail message from a lady there, telling me that I needed to call her back. She gave no personal name or company name. Just a phone number and extension. Said that she had legal documents in front of her and that if I didn't call back she was going to proceed with some court hearing, or something or other, and that my name and social security number would be exposed. She didn't say who she was calling, who she was, or who she represented. Sounds bogus to me!

I am not sure what she meant by exposed, other then to try to scare you into paying for this imaginary debt.  Court papers are public record, however most if not all courts do not allow information such as SS #'s to be included in court papers that anyone can access.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

I received two voice mail messages from someone who identified herself as "Rose Tyler" at this number, and the messages sounded very similar to Mrs. Black above.  She claimed to be calling from the "arbitration division" of "Attorney Goldstein".  The message misused some legal terms, which makes me think it's not real.  For example, she threatened to "execute some documents to [my] home address or last known employer".  That sounds intimidating, but it doesn't actually seem to mean anything.  When I called the number back, an unprofessional sounding voice mailbox just announces the name of the company as "CRG".  Based on some of the details, I found a lot more complaints about this caller under the record for 855-753-4554.  I will file a complaint with FTC.

Received a call - 19 times from one number in 2 days - when I try to tell them this isn't the correct #  - they get upset and called me a liar -  I reported to Attorney General as they threatened me personally - if you want to collect on a  deceased person - you need to follow protocol - and do it correctly
