Got a message, no name of whom they were looking for, said, "you're being investigated for check fraud, this is a serious matter, please cal, etc."  Well, never written a fraudulent check so I think it's another scam artist.  I won't call back and blocked the number.  I'm sure that they'll change to another number..oh, well.

Message said, without any intro or identification, "you are being investigated for TAX FRAUD. This is a serious matter..." blah blah, case number. This is absurd, so I keep calling back -- but there is no answer. I think it as a scam. If they do pick up and want my SSI, they can go screw themselves. I don't believe this is the IRS at all!

(continued) So finally, I get an answer. Sounds like a busy call center in the background. Had the guy repeat who he is with several times but I still can't understand him. I give him the case number and he asks me if I am so-and-so -- my husband's ex-wife! They divorced 15 years ago and she changed her name, and we don't know even where she lives. She never lived here in the first place. They took our number off their list. I still think it's fishy.

I got a call from this number 855-656-9636 it is a collections co. The call starts out saying you are being investigated for Check Fraud they left a number, but i didnt return the call. I have no idea What it was about. If it really is about about checks fraud they wouldnt waste time calling they would send the sheriff to your job or to your house. I think who ever the company is they are just trying any tatic they can to get you to return the calls, sometimes its because of an old unpaid bill that keeps getting passed from one agency to another or they are trying to get info on a friend or family member.if i am not mistaken they company is in Buffalo, New York

OMG I just got off the phone with these people and if I had no knowledge in collection guidelines I would have fell for it. They are so unprofessional. They joke and laugh then hang up in your face. Tell them to take you to court. They've been calling me for the past year and will never give me their address or additional information.Then they finally today, they  gave me an address and it's not listed anywhere. I'm going to file a complaint against who ever CMR is.. People will do anything for money

I received a voice mail from this number.  It was an automated voice telling me that I was being investigated for tax fraud and they gave me a case number and told me to return their call.  I called just to see what was going on but got a voice mail instead.  The call really scared me because I do my own taxes and I thought a had done something criminal.  But judging from the blogs here I see it is probably just a debt collection scheme.  I do have some internet payday loans that I defaulted on so it might be one of those companies.  I am going to report them.

i got the same type of call from a scott edwards which after being in the collections business for 7 years i know was a fake name since we were always told not to give our real names in fear of having something phyical happen to us or worse our cars blown up.
this is a scam to have you call them. they never say this is an attempt to collect a debt which they must by law.
