got a weird call just now stating I needed to call them back because of a lawsuit. did anyone else get the same thing? they told me to call back 1-855-659-1754

just got a call from John Walker saying something about a lawsuit. does anyone know what this is about?

Most likely a scammer - if you really WERE being sued, you wouldn't be called first - the court process server would just show up (or less commonly, you'd receive court papers via certified or registered mail).  What the scammers hope to do is scare people into paying bogus debts (or debts already paid off) by threatening them.  Threatening lawsuits or arrest or service of documents at work are all violations of the FDCPA.  

If they call back, tell them you're recording all calls they make to you to give to your attorney (even if you don't have one) for multiple violations of the FDCPA.  NEVER pay any money unless a caller mails (not emails or faxes) documentation proving you owe a debt to them and that they are legally entitled to collect said debt in your state.  Report the call to the FTC, the FBI and your state's Attorney General.

received call today... recording was garbled so bad i couldn't understand 'where' she was calling from.
stated I must call this number by 5:00 eastern time or my case would be forwarded to * garbled*

Breathe easy. If you were going to be arrested, nobody would be calling you first. The police would simply show up at your door.

As Elspeth said, if you were truly being sued, the papers would be served to you in person or by mail. I would suggest following her advice if they call again.
