- Jackie| 4 repliesJust bought a new lap top. Today before I go on, a red pop up stating I was infected urging not to close out, but to call this number. Well, I did. Good thing my son showed up. This dirtbag said he was from Microsoft and I needed to buy pc fix for him to block the hacker. I feel so stupid. Mostly because I should have seen the flags and listened to my gut!! Anyway beware!!!

- Mary Ellen Tucker replies to JackieExact same phone number! This dirtbag was the exact same thing! Was his name "John Parker" too?
- ER replies to JackieSame damn thing just happened to me. Jerks!
- RachelSame experience; computer locked up, I called the number. I was aware of the phone call scam but not the pop-up. Long story short, I took the computer to the tech support at the store (Micro Center), they backed up my data, wiped the drive and re-installed my operating program. My card company has sent me a dispute form to complete. So far, so good, but... I feel like such a maroon! The scammers have tried to contact me, left a voicemail on my cell phone. And I have gotten another pop-up on my screen, and as advised by the real tech guys, used control, alt, delete.

- AM| 2 repliesSame experience as others, feeling pissed off that I could've been taken advantage of like that. Was sold a "firewall" that works on my IP address, but that I can't see any evidence of and have no way of knowing actually exists, and 2 years tech support, that I don't actually need. Was taken for $350US and then badgered them for a refund when I realized what had happened. They've agreed to credit me $170 of it, but I will wait and see about that.

- Richelle JonesSame thing happened to me, my Dell was purchased less than 2 months ago, an alert sounded on my laptop saying NOT to close it and call the number on the “alert”. The “tech” person said they were with Microsoft from different locations in New York, China, UK and that if someone called me from any of those locations it is Ok to speak with them BUT not to speak with any other “support”, about the problem. The cost was $289.00 to clean and restore laptop, with a 30-day money back guarantee. The charge was declined (THIS IS A SIGN TO HANG UP!!!), and they told me I had to call the bank to Ok the charge so the bank would release the funds (another SCAM because then it looks like YOU Ok’d it!!!). When I called back the same number and a similar number (855-666-1991 & 855-666-1191) the guy sound EXACTLY like the guy I had been speaking with (from India), said he was NOT who I was speaking with and it was NOT the same company “relypcgears.com”, and he had NO record of speaking with me, that... I WAS NOT REGISTERED WITH THEM! If I wanted my laptop fixed I would have to pay him! They also said it was NOT a computer issue but a network issue that had to be handled by a “professional technician”. THIS IS ALL A SCAM. DO NOT BELIEVE THEM. DO NOT PUT YOUR TRUST IN THEM. FORGIVE THEM BECAUSE THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT HARM THEY ARE DOING TO THEIR OWN SOULS & THEIR FUTURE GENERATIONS.

- Marjorie waddeyOur computer had the same popup that it was locked due to someone using our computer. Gave number to call immediately. A James Packer came on line to help. Gave me a spill of Russian hackers were using our computer. Even showed me his picture. Said he could fix our problem for $299.00 or 1200.00 for lifetime protection. Would not stop trying to convince me we needed more protection. Just so happen a little light came on so it told me to hang up. Our grandson came and fixed our computer for us. A close call.

- Ryunk replies to JackieI just had the same thing happen to me. The message covered my entire screen and I lost complete control of my computer.
- karen| 1 replyMy computer came up with a note to call Microsoft and gave this number. I got a Bhawesh Joshi (Rob) I let them into my computer and he told me everything that was wrong. Then told me it would cost 420 dollars. I told he a number of time I don't have that money. He hung up on me very abruptly. I took my computer into a shop here in Alaska and he told me it was all a scam . I felt very dumb but then he told me I was not alone there were a lot of other people coming in with the some thing. It made me mad.

- JustinCase replies to karenHang up on random calling foreigners peddling bogus tech support, lower interest rates, grants, or claiming to be from the IRS. Microsoft doesn't call people and Windows is a program, not brand of a computer. These thieves have no way to tell if there's something wrong with your computer and they're only looking to ransack it, and install worthless software that leaves you at the crook's mercy while charging you an outrageous charge for unnecessary work. They're best making short work of.~I Was Prepared~JustinCase
- sammythese scumbags are in India and have nothing to do w/ Microsoft.
- shirlSame thing happened to me on April 17th. My PC locked up and I was told not to log off. claimed I had hackers and spy problems and Microsoft would have more problems. These scammers talked me in to $299.00 for
3 years security and $199.00 for support. Total of $498.00 was charged to my credit card. I have called my card holder hoping to have this charge taken off.
The person I talked to insisted he was a Microsoft supporter. A secret code popped up on their screen and said not to answer any calls from anyone saying that were Microsoft...unless they could give me the secret code. I MADE A BIG MISTAKE...BE WARE...- Caller: EASYTECHWORK

- JackieSame thing happened to me just today. I feel so dumb. My computer was also locked & this voice repeating over & over again a message to not turn off my computer & whole hacking & Information being stolen spiel. My son came in & told me it was scam. I immediately cancelled my card. I learned this lesson the hard way. I hope many people will read this and avoid this happening to you. I feel sorry for them because they will reap what they sow.

- Danielle| 1 replyMy dad just had an experience with this today. He had a popup from Microsoft that locked his computer because of some nonsense. He called 855-666-1991 and was told to go to loadpcgears.com. They remote accessed his computer and were going through files doing who knows what. Luckily he called me and told me about it and I told him to immediately shut down his computer and call his credit card company to stop payment. Was scammed for $1400. As this just happened, I'm hoping we can reverse the damage. He's going to have to take his computer in somewhere to get things backed up and cleaned out, probably reinstall OS. Really glad this site exists and popped up first on google search. I knew that this is a common scam, but I really had to convince my dad and this helped.

- BigA replies to DanielleThey probably accessed any and all information that was on that computer such as user names and passwords, banking info, credit card info, contacts, etc. You will need to change all of that stuff (not using that computer of course until it has been cleaned by a reputable local company).
- JanetI received a big warning sign saying my Mac laptop was being hacked by people in Romania doing child porn and were accessing all my private information. They sold me $1102 of protection, even asking me to authorize the purchase from my bank. I stupidly did so and then read about this scam. I immediately contacted the bank and cancelled the transaction. They were good sales people and had me convinced. I am a naive Sr. citizen trusting people with enough common sense to realize my mistake. BIG SCAM!

- Kathie replies to JackieMy computer was locked and this number appeared in the banner. Ajay of EasyTech said he was from Microsoft and I needed security software and even though I knew in my gut it was a scam, I bought the service package and it cost me just shy of $500. I told him I'd changed my mind and he said if I cancelled I'd get back $28. So after months of trying to get refund I got a phone call tonight and the caller said he was going to help me get my refund. To make a long story short, he accessed my bank account and stole $1000.00. I knew something wasn't kosher. I should have listened to my instincts. I would still have my $1500.00 if I had. I don't know what to do now.
- Kathie replies to AM| 1 replyYou won't get it. The got me for $1500.00. My advice is kiss it goodbye and call it an expensive lesson.
