- krystal replies to the credit hunterI get multiple calls from this number about two years ago I received the same type of calls and the threatened prison and jail or court costs if I don't pay up I was a single mother with a child who's father passed so I couldn't risk being taken to jail for a debt and leaving my son I ended up paying over 400 dollars 486 to be exact. Then this last Christmas I started getting calls back I spoke with the agent and asked why I havent received any mail or anything on my credit report stating a debt. They had no answers for me I asked to speak with the manager and was transfered and hung up on they then called later and I got through to a so called manager I told them I know this is a scam and I'm reporting them and if they have a debt to collect to garnish me if that's the case I reported them to the consumer financial agency on the government website and called and let them know what happened in the past and currently once I did that I stopped receiving calls in fact once I filed a report and called this collection agency back and told them to quit harassing me and that I've filed a government complaint and there was going to be and investigation suddenly they didn't have me on file.. I am now receiving calls from this number similar in nature I think it's the same people or people after the same thing. It's a SCAM!!! I got a report back that the collection agency I reported has not responded to any on the government requests and they were continuing the investigation. After a few months I looked up the company that was harassing me and it was like it never existed. I think it's the same scammers with a new 1855 number. And a different fake collection company name.
- billye pthis number has been harassing our home number for a long time. At first they left a message saying they were looking for an individual we've never heard of but recently stopped leaving messages. I think it's a scam but will report it.

- Kat replies to LPWhat if you don't owe a bill? What if you've told them they have the wrong number but they still keep calling?
Regular collection agencies don't act like this. Scammers do. - BigA replies to LP"It's not a scam, just a regular collection agency." I notice you didn't mention the name of this allegedly legitimate company. If you know it, then why not? If you don't know the name than how can you say they are a real collection agency and not criminals pretending to be debt collectors? All the reports in this thread indicate that these people are breaking collection laws, both federal and state. One post up there says they are the "Collection Agency of America" Seriously? I didn't know the government was in the business of collecting civil private debt. sorry but i don't believe you. Especially since you looked this number up after talking to them, thus you knew who you talked to but looked the number up anyway. Normal people don't do that. Shills do though.
- BigAFederal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Debt collectors are known for calling outdated. - Yoda1725 replies to LPDebt collectors only get to keep their job based on how much they collect. If they don't make the goal set for them, someone else gets their job. No such thing as a pleasant debt collector.
- JohnCaller refused to identify but kept asking if I was X. I repeated every time who is calling please and then hung up
- HelloFake debt collector? They say I owe $3000 of unpaid taxes and threaten that I could end up in jail if I don't pay. Ha ha ha. Very funny.

- HCalled me Too 4 times a day
- Caller: ????
- CalleeSCAM! They call and do not leave a message. They said, after multiple attempts of me asking the question, that they are a credit/collections company (theywould not give a real company name). If you answer the call, the recording says to hold for an agent. I called back three times and they hung up on me three times when I asked who is calling. It's definitely a red flag when a caller will not leave a message and when calling them back they won't answer a simple question about who they are exactly. They want an easy mark and when you ask questions, they run like the cockroaches when you aren't easy to manipulate. Pitiful human beings that do this kind of work or flat out know they are scamming people. Call them and hang up! Lol!
- Caller: They say it's a collections company
- CWG40Hold music when you call that number suggests that this is sort of overseas scam. Hangs up after a few minutes of the music. Creepy music is usually the sign of an overseas scammer. Ignore and block the number.
