They left 2 voice messages.  First message was left by an actual person who had an accent.  Hard to understand.  Today (Feb 20/2025), there was an automated message which was easier to hear.  They said it was for a verification background check for someone whose name I couldn't decipher.  Then to immediately call back at 1-855-705-0249 as it was time sensitive.  Blocked the number since I figured it was a scam.  When they claim it is urgent?  Big red flag.  Stay safe everyone.

Did you call them back?  I just got a call from them today which is weird.  I just wanted to get your thoughts.

If you check the first page of this thread there is a post from BigA on 26 Jun 2024 in which he is associating these calls with a Debt Collection scam. BigA is good with his info, so it is likely he is right. There are a number of Reddt threads about this very same call and message and these point in the Debt Scam direction.

I would be inclined to NOT return the call and block the number. If they try more times, you will want to consider following the steps BigA outlines.

Received a call from 888-264-7286 and left a voice message to call 1-855-705-0249 for background check verification.

Background check being done yet I've had same employer for 20 plus years..now calling family which seems very strange..Haven't applied for job or anything so thinking it's a scam

Got the call from 833 200 3183 saying they are with NCRI conducting a background check on me and to call back at 855 705 0249.  I am currently looking for work, however companies don’t usually call you when they’re doing a background check on you. So I’m not calling them back.

Called and left msg. stating doing a background check on me and to call 855-705-0249,so I left them the message to send me a debt verification letter and to send it tnbn45⁵

I received a call at noon today from (323)321-6744 from NCRI, wanting to verify a background check on me and requesting that I call (855)705-0249.

P.S. I actually did call them back and when the male agent informed me i was being recorded, i agreed and in return i also informed him that i was also recording this call if he agreed! Immediately his response was " no, you may not record this phone call. So my only response was "you got me mistaken, sucker, and i change my answer to this recording to a no" and hung up!

Call from various numbers.   Most legit phone calls call from the number they want you to call.   If it wasn’t a scam they would have call from the 855 number not a different number completely.    When they leave a message it says something about called  in regards to and then says nothing.

they have been harassing me for months now to call back, which I have not, and I want the calls to stop.

Conducting a background check on someone who is not me and who I don't know.

Repeated phone calls from a 469 area code, directing to call them back at 855-705-0249. They are conducting a background on check on someone that I don't even know. I've blocked the number but they keep leaving automated voicemails.
