- David BoroughHere's what happened to me -- I have not been charged yet, but I warned Verizon about this and hopefully they will come to the rescue. This company is apparently CELLAREA.com. I was playing a game on my Droid and accidentally clicked on an AD link within the application -- I didn't even know I had done it. I had just been on the Android Market, and the ad link brought me to apparently a webpage that MASKED itself as the Android Market. The app looked fun, and was FREE, so I downloaded it. However, it was NOT an Android app. In fact, this company has android applications removed continually because of Fraud. In this case, the site was MORPHZONE.ME. Once the app was installed, they SOMEHOW had scoured my phone and pulled my phone number. I NEVER provided this information. THEN, I got a text message!!! Already I know something bad has happened. The message says to reply HELP for help, and STOP to stop the 'subscription'. What subscription? I never subscribed to ANYTHING!!! Then I read up on it a bit. Apparently, this FOUR DIGIT code, either STOP or HELP = a 4 digit PIN, which they DID NOT INFORM ME OF in any way or form when downloading their APPLICATION. They will now try to use it against me as a my VERIFYING a subscription. Absolutely CRIMINAL. How cell phone companies continue to allow such charges is beyond me. After I texted STOP, they replied letting me know "Your Cellarea subscription is cancelled. For more support, email "XXXX" or call "XXXX"
I am horribly upset and just wish we could send in a Seal team to take care of these people like Osama Bin Laden. If I get a charge on my Verizon Bill I will go absolutely ballistic...and I'm pretty sure at this point it's going to happen. I should never have replied with STOP, however, they already had my cell information so I don't know it would've made a difference. PISSED OFF!!!- Caller: Verizon

- AmyI just received a text message this morning informing me of my pin# for cellarea trivia alerts. NO idea what this was. I received the same message just a few minutes later. I debated on whether or not to STOP and then decided to do it. I then received a message that I am not subscribed. Im hoping that this is all that has to be done and that I'm not going to get charged the $9.99 that it talked about. I have NO idea where it came from or why it came to my phone. So sick of the sneaky low life people around that can't seem to find an honest job and all they do is sit around and find ways to scam people!!

- Carol| 1 replyI was on the Frontier Airlines website (I thought). There was a pop-up asking me to complete a short survey, and promised an entry into a drawing. I filled out the survey, which included my cell phone number. Next thing I knew, I got a text message saying I had subscribed to Cellarea for $9.95 a month. I called this phone number, got an operator, who promised to put my number on the block list. She assured me that since I had not texted back using the included pin number, there would be no charges on my phone. Hopefully, this is the end of it, but it is still a scam! They answered the phone as "My Mobile Care, your one-stop shop for premium text messaging services".
- Caller: My Mobile Care
- peter popup replies to CarolYou filled out a survey on a POP UP ad?????
You should be banned from the internet! - Cyndy| 1 replyTotal scam. They instantly subscribe you, and say you should text "STOP" if you do not want their services. When I texted "STOP", I got a return text saying, "You are not Subscribed". However, they will still charge you immediately, and will not refund that money.

- TeelI had been entering "codes" sent to me by Facebook in order to use my cell phone to upload pictures, videos, etc. and there were a few times when I received two messages instead of one from FB. I found out the second message was from some off the wall website for Text Alerts, Pickuplinealerts and Rington/Wallppr/Alrt. I spoke with my service provider and was given credit for them. She also set it up so I would be required to enter a pin number next time I received one of these messages so I would know immediately not to subscribe. I had actually received five of them but only three appeared on my cell phone bill.

- sherry replies to CyndyI got the sane message. I hope they do not charge me. My husband will be mad.
- LindaI did not download any apps - I just have a plain old-fashioned cell phone. I also did not complete any surveys or reply to any text messages or unwanted calls. So how can they charge me $19.98 for something I did not want and haven't even heard of?
