My husband and my mom both received calls from this phone number this morning. They informed my family members that they had tried to contact me about a civil lawsuit in Girard County. I don’t even know where that is! And said I had until the end of the day to call them back. When looking up Anderson and associates this website came up with an 877 number and the exact same story. This is definitely a scam. They are using scare tactics to try to negotiate you giving them money. They will usually say that you owe something from 2006 or so. It’s usually a large amount and say that they’re willing to settle for a few thousand less but they want immediate payment . Don’t fall for it. I live in Texas and the statue of limitation’s on deaths is four years.

One of the tricks they use is to call your family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them so that they can scare that person into paying extortion money.  They will usually also state information that would be illegal for a real debt collector to state to department and tell them that you are a deadbeat who does not pay their bills.  They often call people that have never even been a third party such as that you are being sued, that you owe money to someone, etc. They threaten that if you do not call them back, they will contact your HR associated with you because they get erroneous information off the internet.

The fake process server/location finder extortion SCAM usually consists of the following:

They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency.  They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  They threaten to serve you at home or at work.  They tell you that if they serve you at work then they will need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work.  They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID.  None of which is true.  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.  They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”.  Court documents are time sensitive and must be served within a certain amount of time.  Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there really is a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

They called asking for my mother.
They said she had a civil court suit or complaint but in our local county. Little did they know was I work for county and when I told them we ddnt have any court matters in her name the lady tried to get rude and say.  “It won’t be in your system at the sheriffs office it’s only seen in our system”. Don’t fall for thdd we hype. The lady wouldn’t give me any information in regards to what type of civil matter it was even though I was on the contact list for my mother. Anytime you get a number unknown like this please report it to your local police department or sheriffs office. It can also be reported online and to the FTC.  Thanks and be safe ‘!

Called about an outstanding civil lawsuit against me in Wake County which is untrue.
I could hear other people making calls in the background.  Asked for my date of birth and I did not give the person that information, so she throws out a false birthdate, I said no and informed her not to call my telephone number ever again. Wow!

Me & my wife both received voicemail from 906-372-5015 to return message at 855-715-2229 with a reference number. The message stated that if they didn't receive a call today that they would proceed with their action and we would not get our say with it.
I believed this to be spam hence this message.

This a debt collector extortion scam. Same as above, called looking for a family member and said they would be taking “action” towards them if the call was not returned today. Just ignore and report to FTC.

Michael Walker, who said he was with Anderson and Associates, also called my wife and I as well as an outside family member. He gave us the same song and dance, that a Notice of Action was taken against me in Cabell County, that I had until the end of the day to call that 855 number with a reference # and that since I had ignored prior notices that the action would be carried out. He said that you have been notified. Of course, the outside family member got nervous, called his father to tell him, which we don't talk to either one of them, his father called me and left a voicemail, called my wife and left a voicemail, then proceeded to tell other family members about this phone call his son received about me. I will definitely be notifying the FTC.

I received a call from 843-303-9040 asking for me, but not by my common name. They identified themselves as Johnson & Associates. They said I was the contact for my mother. I took their information,  phone number, case number, etc and said I'd let her know. The call back number they gave was 855-715-2229. So after having up I called the number that had called me and all I got was the fact busy signal tone. I then called the 855 number and asked the girl why this number was reported as a scam. Oh, she immediately questioned this and was defensive.  She kept insisting on me giving her a case number rather than answering my questions.  I offered to meet in person with them, but she only wanted the case number. I asked one more why this number is linked to so many scam complaints? Can you just tell me why? A reputable firm would not want this and would seek to correct it. Anyway, she hung up on me. Yeah, if someone said my business number was linked to scam complaints I would definitely be getting info on where and what was said so I could correct the issue. I would also take the time help the one who called me with this matter. Scammers will do this. They are hit and run scum. So be warned!

They called two of my relatives in 2 different States told them I needed to call regarding a legal suit at the number 855 715 2229.  Left a reference number stated I needed to call back today. My relatives called me, I panicked and return the call from an unidentified number. The scary part was the Lady( Olivia Wilson) had some correct information on me Such as current and previous address! A couple of red flags were one of the relatives they called AND they said the previous mail correspondence came from a “Hellosign” which I have never received any mail from such name.
Thank God for google where we can report to assist other people with current SCAMS!!!  BEWARE!!!

They called my mother to say there was a civil judgement against her and for her to call 855-715-2229 with ref *****. They scared her so she called me to investigate.  The first thing the lady told me when I called was that the number I am calling from is registered to a different name not my mother. Who cares who this number is registered to..They clearly want to talk to an elderly person to con con con! She offered to send me debt details via email which I have yet to receive. She said the debt is currently $1800.  If it goes to court, it will be $8,000! Ridic! These scammers are putting in overtime! be mindful and tell your family and friends about these calls.
