I just received a letter with a refund check attached from American Express. I have no idea what it is in reference to, but the phone number they list to call for questions is 1-855-720-6799.

Letter state this program is managed by American Express Travel Related Services Company.

I received a check back in Nov. 2013 with a letter referencing Costco AMEX True Earnings rebate (not AMEX travel...), contact: 1-855-720-6799.  Costco AMEX does have rebate checks which can be redeemed at Costco, but this letter specifically said "Please do NOT bring it to Costco as it can't be redeemed or cashed".  The check has US BANK, Miamisburg, Ohio, routing number (042205038).  I called US BANK and they indicated the routing number I am asking about is NOT for any of their cashier or money order checks and if it doesn't match their website which lists routing numbers for the Ohio area, I should bring the check into one of their branches to verify if it's real.

January 2015: I suspect a scam! received a letter as well, for $1 check!!! Advise to this amex: credit it back into the account you are referring to!   Just think about this:if one would deposit this type of check into a checking account, it would go back to this ?unknown CO/Bank? with even more information on it...is it phishing , perhaps?

It is an ACH routing number for US Bank using their MN address 1-800-937-6310 is ACH services.  My complaint is Amex should have all this Rust Consulting and add'l rebate checks info on its website so one can verify it

US Bank verified it is a good routing number for Cincinnati/Miamisburg OH.  All cardholders should be contacting Amex to demand its customer service have knowledge of these checks and be able to verify the phone numbers, routing numbers, check amounts, etc.  Best would be to credit our accounts since these after the fact awards cannot be used at Costco like the normal reward checks.  Considering the letters that come with the checks are signed by Amex Customer Service, its not acceptable for them to palm it all off on Rust Consulting (who has this phone number...)

I just received a check for $300 hearing of so many scams going on I called American Express twice at their regular phone number and both times I was told the check is legitimate, they just told me that the phone number on the check belongs to American Express, I wanted more information from customer service on why I was sent the check and they instructed me to speak to the financial department which was closed at the moment, so I will be calling back to verify that this check is what it is because of hearing too many scams going on and this causing a lot of hardships if it is a scam and they can go into your account and leave you penniless, so I will not be depositing this check until I am totally sure even though customer service stated it was I need to be careful. Plus I checked online on checks being sent through the mail by American Express and it is a campaign of giving back monies that a lot of people were denied with Amex and points which were never given to them.. In my case my card has been inactive for over 3 yrs so you could say this is a Christmas Bonus
