- T4todd| 2 repliesI received a call from a very friendly, professional sounding lady stating that she need to serve legal paperwork too me, and was just giving a courtesy call to let me know she would be out tomorrow 3 -5pm. When I asked what it concerned she gave me a ph# and a case # and said she had no idea she was just a courier.
I call the number 855-744-0714 and Gave a gentleman the case . He id himself as Josh Mathews with Hartman, Kemp, & Assoc. and they had purchased a collection amount from Visa Services for some $3000.00 and since I had not responded to any of the other attempts to contact me, like the 50% out of court settlement offer, that they where now sending me a summons to appear in court.
When I asked which back the Visa card was through, he did not know, when I asked him why this never showed on my credit report, he came up with some lamb excuse about once it placed, that it does show on your report. (So I guess if you go to collection your credit score goes up??)
We I told him that I "obviously" was not going to make a payment to him with no information.
He then starting rushing me off the phone and asked for my email so that he could send me the details.
Have not received anything yet,, I am guessing I wont- Caller: Hartman, Kemp, & Assoc.

- BigAThe fake process server/location finder extortion SCAM usually consists of the following:
They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency. They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer). They threaten to serve you at home or at work. They tell you that if they serve you at work then they will need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work. They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID. None of which is true. Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them. Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else. They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”. Court documents are time sensitive and must be served within a certain amount of time. Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there really is a lawsuit that has been filed against you.
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

- Dylan / Leslienot me but my mom received a call from a "Private Caller". She says the lady sounded very nice and professional and worked for the County we live in as a legal courier. She stated this is a couretsy call and that she would be by between 3-5 PM tomorrow to deliver the legal paperwork and that its sealed when she gets it. If you want more information you can call 8557440714.
Our county is a small county and can barely afford an active police force, much less a county courier like this. For those worried about this stuff, in case of any actual legal summons, you will be server via actual law enforcement officers such as sheriff deputys. Not a private legal courier.- Caller: Private Caller / Hartman Kemp Mediation

- Stephanie| 1 replyThey called my sons number, Nicole Harrison spoke of trying to get me served and they attempted to serve me and will try one more time before 'exhausting all efforts' and filling an affidavit naming me as the defendant.
Called number provided 855-744-0714 and spoke with Michael Martin a para legal with Hartman Kemp and Associates. I provided my credentials name, and last 4 of SS. He even listed the old house i use to live in as where they tried to serve me. Told me I had a Carsons Credit Card debt that was sent to them to collect. Got my email to email me the 37 page document. He put me on hold to work out a deal the attorney and she would accept much less than what I owed. I need to get back to them by tomorrow or they are going to file a civil Judgement aginst me. I ask what court they would file in and he said I didnt understand that nothing was filed yet until they served me.
was very quick to get off the phone with me.- Caller: Hartman Kemp & Associates

- Tygerkat replies to StephanieWhy in the world did you give him any information?! This is a scam! First of all, real process servers don't call in advance. Second of all, emails - like phone calls - are not a legal method of debt validation. Only documentation sent via U.S. mail.
- SAMMYSaid to serve papers for 19,000$. Said settle for 7,000$. I said to look into it, and they hang up.

On 11/19/2021 I received a call from an unknown caller potential spam. A women began interrogating me about an outstanding Boscov account, to which I replied I never had one. She continued with my social security number and an old address that I once resided at. She ended the conversation by telling me legal paperwork would be sent to me regarding this matter and gave me a phone number.
On 11/ 22/2021, I received a call from a man who claimed to be a courier. He stated that he had paperwork that needed to be served and asked if I was going to be home between 3-5p. Upon asking what the paperwork was regarding, he said didn’t know because the envelope was sealed. Oddly enough, the man never verified an address to serve me at prior to hanging up, but provided me with the 855-744-0714 phone number and a reference number.
11/23/2021- no such person arrived, prompting me to google the number, which lead me to this thread.- Caller: 855-744-0714
