- Charles Halbert| 2 repliesA guy with a heavy Indian accent called; I couldn't understand 1/3 of what he was saying but he convinced me that he was working for Microsoft and that my computer was generating error messages. He tried to talk me through something that began by hitting START/RUN and filling in the name of a software program. Make a long story short: He eventually took control of my computer himself and displayed a lot of error messages and told me that he had the very thing I needed. He put a website on my screen that displayed a box of software and the cost was >$100 for one year. The company name was: MDIS and the phone number was 855-752-4075. I finally got the guy to admit his employer was MDIS in Salt Lake City, UT. I told him to go fly a kite - I didn't trust him. I just hope he didn't leave anything on my computer that is unwanted.
- Caller: MDIS
- scoGot call from Walter, who said he was from Microsoft and they were getting error messages and would help me. I was on landline and couldn't access my computer, but he did start talking me though something by going to Control and event. Gave me his number to call back later in evening. When I (foolish of me) called back, Walter wasn't there but Sam was. When I ask 2 seperate men what was the name of their company, they were silent and then hung up. They really sounded real. Should have known better. They spoke with a heavy accent.

- IT GuyGot a call from 855-752-4075. Said he was from INTEL and my computer had a virus. I asked: "Which one? I have eight computers on line." He finally came up with a hexidecimal number that was made up. Just to be safe, I ran several anti-virus programs and two anti-rootkit programs. Took two hours. NO VIRUSES FOUND! They need to get English speaking scammers. Migtht be more believable.

- RichardJust like the rest of the comments above. Said he was from Microsoft and his name was Gary David. Said my computer had a Trojan virus and needed me to start my computer for him. I got his name and number and called a friend who is a programmer. He advissed to not call back or do anything else. Then I looked at this site.

- LuchikGrateful for the other reports, I decided to add my voice. I got the same call purporting to be from Microsoft and giving the 855-752-4075 number as the only validation. When I doubted his ability to determine that my particular computer was generating error messages he asked me to go to Start/Run/Eventvwr to see the errors - which, of course, weren't there. At that point I decided it was futile to try to get more information from the speaker whom I could barely understand due to inarticulate English. When I hung up I reminded myself, Microsoft would never make such a cold call with such a foolish claim. They would validate their presence clearly and politely with something that was not invasive and something that was real.

- KWI received a phone call from 855 752 4075 stating that he was from Microsoft and that my computer was sending error messages. Most of what he said I needed him to repeat because of a heavy accent. When he tried to instruct me to do follow his instructions on my computer, I questioned his identity. He was very defensive, and said his name was Calvin Williams and the employee badge was 0099. I made him repeat his information and he was a little rude in doing so. I told him that I would check into his claims and get back to him and then I hung up. He called back not even 5 minutes later - angry and wanting to know what I needed his employee number. I told him that HE called me and that OBLIGATED HIM to give me the information.
Then I hung up.
I am trusting that this is a scam.................- Caller: Microsoft

- HenryCall was like the others described (except my caller's name was "John"). I had my son, who is far more computer savvy than I am, call him back - and it became clear that he was not from Microsoft but was just trying to sell a product.
- Catherine SmithThis company called me and said my computer was sending them a lot of error messages and that I needed to go to my computer now and fix it. I knew it was a scam so I pretended to do what he was telling me to. I finally admitted to him that I was just writing the steps down and I would do it on the computer later. He then told me to just call Microsoft tech support when I was ready. I did manage to get his number and the name of his company, "MDI", before he hung up.

- SocJanI just had the same experience as those above. I got the caller to give me the 855-752-4075 phone number and then checked here. A scam, as I suspected.
I am on the DO NOT CALL list and I know there are supposed to be penalties when these guys call us and have no business relationship with us. I will report this number to the DO NOT CALL list people, and refer them to this website. THIS WILL BE A TEST OF WHETHER OUR "GOVERNMENT CAN DO NOTHING GOOD" de-funding of government agencies, by the "business-friendly" (read "criminal behavior friendly") right wing has left the world wide open to this scam and to "Rachel from Card Services", who calls me on the average once a day.
We DO need "consumer protection" from such predatory and obviously immoral, if not illegal, scams as this one. "Business friendly" should not include "sscam friendly".- Caller: not sure, but see othe postings

- Lisa RedI received a call at 12:25 CDT from a gentleman calling himself Calvin Williams. He said he was from Microsoft and claimed my computer was sending a lot of error messages. I said I needed to change the baby's diaper and would call him back. He gave me the number 1-855-752-4075 and said I should ask for Calvin Williams. When I called the number back, they said the company was India Tech Support, not Microsoft.
- Caller: Microsoft? India Tech Support?
