Fraud call about court documents

I got a call stating it was from the clerk office 8557674033

Someone from this number called one of my places of work wanting to get my information stating they had a court reference docket number and were trying to serve a summons. Upon looking up the docket information the number is invalid.

Of course the docket number is invalid - real process servers do NOT call you and give you a heads up that they're on the way!  And if it was a legitimate company - which it isn't - they wouldn't need your "information" - they'd already have it.  Please do report your caller to the FTC, FBI and your state's Attorney General.

Received the same call in Florida yesterday/today.

Got a call regarding a relative I have no contact with regarding court documents. The person was vicious on the phone and threatened me if I did not contact this relative.

Received a voice message stating that they were on way to clerks office to put lien on house

Fraud call about court documents to my cell phone. Didn't call them back because it was too obvious it was a fraud call.

I got a call from this number saying they were verifying my address because I was being served with court documents for my boyfriend. I think this is [***] and some sort of fraud. for one since when do they call to serve you court documents and 2 the lady told me it wasn't public record that's why I cant look up the "case #" I was giving...all cases are public record so they are full of [***]!!!!

Calling to serve documents form the clerks office pertaining to my father. Different caller each time, different documentation number given each time.

Got a call re court document for my nephew, wanting to send me the documents to sign for and stating that if I signed for them, I would have to show up in court (what a load of crap)

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I just got a call to my work. I'm nervous now, this has been going on over a week now on my cell phone! Now my work?! The addresses on my voicemail haven't been correct for the most part. Is this a confirmed scam?

Yes, it is a confirm scam.  If someone had court documents for you, they would just deliver them.  No one calls to warn you that you will be served, they just serve you.  Yes, the calls are scary.  These clowns make them all day so they are good at sounding scary on the phone.

Let all take a deep breath and use some common sense: 1)  If I were a "locator" why would I have to call you and confirm you address?  With modern technology and data bases, why would I need to do that? 2) If it were my job to "serve" people, why would I call ahead and warn them, they would just hide and I couldn't find them.  Doesn't make any sense

I would assume no.  Someone who posted earlier would have come back to inform us.  In another thread we have someone who has been waiting to get "served" for over two years now
