My computer froze and a message popped up with a number to call to fix it.  Unfortunately I made a call and gave them access.  Now they want me to send them two thousand dollars for their services. I have not done so and have also filed a police report for computer fraud.

You better do more than that.   You should change out any financial account numbers and passwords you might have had on your computer.  Also, you should take your computer to a brick and mortar shop and have the computer checked out.  Chances are they installed malware on your computer as well.

Internet security 101:   Never give control of your computer over to ANYONE you do not personally know!

After we got scammed on a popup "emergency notification" from microsoft that computer was going to be shut down by Microsoft because of being corrupted- unless we called "microsoft" within 2 minutes, we did and they destroyed the computer operating system, I looked up "Microsoft Support" and called them at 1-800-441-6373. They wanted hundreds of dollars to fix our computers. I later got ahold of the real Microsoft tech support they told me that real Microsoft doesn't charge for their tech support. Draw your own conclusion.
