I received a call from this number claiming that my computer is full of viruses. The girl, who calls herself Lisa wanted me to do some operations involving the CTRL key and the Windows key. I did not follow her directions and hung up. Did anyone else have a similar experience?

Oh yes.  That scam usually originates from India,  and they are trying to walk you down the primrose path into unknowingly download one of their viruses. This virus snoops your computer and gives them personal information and passwords.  Next time one of them calls and begins immediately with instructing you to go to your computer,  etc.    Just hang up.

I received a call on my cell phone, an Unavailable caller ID. 855-776-4438. Told me my computer is in danger of a bad virus. I had difficulty understanding her and asked if I could have her number to call back from a land line. I suspected this was a scam. They told me to ask for Mark Adamson. This is scary!!!

I had this same experience. A woman with a heavy Indian accent called (however there were people in the background with American accents) stating my computer had downloaded "viruses, malware and germs" and  needed my permission to remove it. I asked her for her company name and number 1-855-776-4438, I couldn't understand much more than E and W for the name. Instead of providing me with the actual "error message" or IP address had given me my cell phone number. I told her this sounded like a scam and to not call back. She immediately called back and I had to forcefully tell her not to call this number again.

I had this happen today...my computer has viruses and this person named Jack with Windows...he spoke with a thick Indian accent told me he was calling me to walk me through how to fix the errors. I'm not comfortable with this...how did they get my number or ip address? I asked for his # to call back and got this one 1-855-776-4438. The number on my caller ID had no area code and was 865-6696.
    Very scary.

I don't think he has your IP address. You should've asked him to name your IP address. Either way just block that number and report it.

I received this similar phone call today from a gentleman with an Indian accent. The number came up as "unavailable" on my cell phone. As he started instructing me to do some things on my computer, I lied and told him that I had to call back. He gave me this toll free number for the "Windows Helpline" and told me to ask for "Scott Adams." Yeah, riiiiiight.....

THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected-corrupted scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.

I just received a call from the same scam. The guy said his name is Mark Adamson. He claimed to be from a company called DC Diagnosis, and said they've received error messages and my computer is going to crash if I don't do something about it. I called them back, but when they tried to use a screen-sharing tool, I called him on it and told him I'm going to report him. This thing obviously isn't legit.
